Thug Life shooting begins in Delhi

The suspense surrounding Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life is over as the shooting commenced in Delhi on Monday, 22 April.

Tamil actor Silambarasan TR joined the sets. Kamal Haasan will join the shooting on 24 April.

Earlier, the crew shot a few crucial sequences in Jaisalmer and some high-octane fight scenes near the Red Fort in New Delhi.

The North India schedule of this pan-India film is expected to continue for 20 days. Later, the team will leave for Siberia to shoot the climax portion.

Trisha Krishnan, Gautam Karthik, Joju George, and Aishwarya Lekshmi will also be part of the North India schedule.

Malayalam actor Dulquer Salmaan withdrew from the project due to date clashes. Subsequently, Silambarasan replaced him.

Interestingly, the original choice for the role was Silambarasan. But he couldn’t give a green signal to the project then due to his looks, which he designed for his next movie — tentatively titled STR48.

Jayam Ravi also opted out of the flick recently due to date clashes. Either Arvind Swami or Arun Viijay is expected to replace him.

Thug Life is jointly produced by Kamal Haasan, Mani Ratnam, R Mahendran, and Siva Ananth under their banners Raaj Kamal Films International and Madras Talkies.

Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies is presenting it.

Kamal Haasan plays the role of Rangaraaya Sakthivel Naicker. Interestingly, Sakthivel Naicker was the name of Kamal’s character in Nayakan (1987), a classic directed by Mani Ratnam.

AR Rahman will compose the music for Thug Life. This is the first time the three legends are coming together for a project.

Rahman earlier worked with Kamal Hassan for Thenali (2000). He has been collaborating with Mani Ratnam for a long time.
