The wait is over! The title of Superstar Rajinikanth’s most-anticipated film with director Lokesh Kanagaraj, tentatively titled Thalaivar 171, has been revealed — Coolie.
Coolie comes a perfect title for the first collaboration between Lokesh Kanagaraj and Rajinikanth.
On Monday, 22 April, the makers revealed the title along with a teaser.
The teaser gives us a clear picture that the flick is about smuggling (gold biscuits and gold watches).
Coolie teaser also showcases a few high-octane action sequences that give the impression that the movie will be an out-and-out action entertainer with a villainous Rajini in a full-form.
The teaser also has the “Disco” song playing in the background and it appears to be the signature soundtrack/theme for the Superstar’s character.
Rajinikanth looks stylish as ever and seems to have had a blast playing the role.
Interestingly, the teaser has also been shot in monochrome, except for the gold bars and gold watches.
Expectations are now running sky-high after the release of Coolie teaser.

It is learnt that Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh expressed his willingness to act in Coolie. He is likely to play an extended cameo in the flick. However, there is no official confirmation yet.
Hours before the title revelation, Sun Pictures — the production house that is bankrolling the film — released two new posters where Rajinikanth’s face is seen in a wristwatch in one and he wears a chain made of watches in the other poster.
Needless to say, it was a move to increase the anticipation of fans and moviegoers.
The makers unveiled the first-look poster of Thalaivar171 on 28 March. The poster broke the internet and became a hot topic of discussion on social media.
In the first-look poster, Rajinikanth wears golden Rolex watches as “handcuffs”. He sports a rugged shirt and a pair of golden-framed sunglasses. A smug smile on his face amplifies the look.
Rajinikanth is presented against a monochromatic background. However, his sunglasses, watches, and the title are all gold. The number “171” is in red letters.
As the poster went viral, social media was flooded with fan theories.
Lokesh Kanagaraj previously announced that he wanted to show the villainous side of Thalaivar and that the movie isn’t an instalment of his LCU universe.
Anirudh Ravichander is scoring the music for Coolie. He previously composed songs for Rajinikanth’s superhit movie Jailer (2023).
The action choreography is by Anbariv.
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is working on his upcoming movie Vettaiyan directed by TJ Gnanavel.
