Telangana govt offers compensation to sterilisation camp victims

Four of the 34 women who underwent family planning surgeries at a camp held in Ibrahimpatnam died over the last three days.

Telangana health minister T Harish Rao visited NIMS Hospital in Hyderabad on 31 August 2022 to meet the patients who fell ill after undergoing sterilisation surgery at a family-planning camp held in Ibrahimpatnam. While 34 women underwent surgeries at the camp, four of them died. The rest were admitted to NIMS and Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad and have been undergoing treatment. The Telangana government announced ex gratia of ₹5 lakh, 2BHK to the families of the deceased. It also resolved to provide free education to children of the deceased in residential schools.
