Synopsis: Congress MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy criticised Revanth Reddy’s government over alleged corruption, sidelining loyal workers and poor implementation of welfare policies, while vowing to fight for the state’s poor, unemployed, women, students and farmers.
Congress MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy has triggered suspicions of discontent within the party regarding the functioning of the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy-led government in Telangana.
Speaking during a book launch event at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad on August 13, the Munugode MLA lashed out at the government and said, “We can change the politics here too, like it was done in Tamil Nadu.”
He expressed anguish that loyal party workers who have stood with the Congress party were sidelined while turncoats have been granted key posts in the state government.
“It hurts me. As I am in a political party, I am unable to speak more,” he said.
He, however, came down heavily on the Revanth Reddy-led regime and questioned why the poor people are being made to suffer even to avail benefits of government policies while people “at the top” are allowed to loot public money.
Issuing a stern warning to those in power, he threatened to fight on behalf of the unemployed, students, women and farmers of the state.
“We will seek accountability from those who are misusing power and looting lakhs of crores. We will fight against the corrupt; do not test our patience and assume it is our incompetence. If need be, we will stand for students, the unemployed, women and farmers, and fight against corruption,” he said.
“I have been watching the politics closely, and have understood that just me being just and truthful is not enough. I have to fight against corruption to bring justice to the poor and marginalised,” he said, adding that he had “remained patient for all these years.”
“But now the time has come to fight,” Reddy said.
Referring to Eapuri Somanna, whose book chronicling his 25-year musical journey was being launched at the event, the MLA said, “You get ready for the fight with gajja (ankle bells); I will get ready by tying the scarf”
The Congress MLA criticised his government for imposing hundreds of conditions on poor families in order to receive the Rs 5 lakh housing assistance under the Indiramma Housing scheme, while alleging that those “at the top” were being allowed to loot thousands of crores.
He questioned the system where a poor beneficiary can be denied housing assistance because an old auto or tractor remains registered in their name, even when it is no longer in use.
Vowing to fight against the alleged injustices, Reddy said, “We will get on the ground. Did people’s lives change after Telangana state came? The rich became richer, the poor became poorer.”
