Synopsis: BRS leaders accused Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of supporting a “perpetrator” accused of sexual misconduct, after the state government signed an MoU with a JV of MEIL and Analog. The criticism is based on allegations of executive misconduct against Analog’s founder and chief executive officer, Alex Kipman

A day after the Telangana government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Joint Venture (JV) of Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) and UAE-based AI firm Analog, BRS leaders on Friday, 3 July, accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of supporting a “perpetrator” accused of sexual misconduct.

The criticism is based on allegations of executive misconduct, including verbal and sexual harassment, against Analog’s founder and chief executive officer, Alex Kipman, from 2022.

BRS member Krishank listed details of the sexual harassment allegations against Kipman during his tenure at Microsoft as a Corporate Vice President. Several international and Indian news articles reported that Kipman resigned from Microsoft in 2022 following allegations by over 25 female employees that he engaged in inappropriate behaviour, including touching without consent and watching lewd VR videos at work.

BRS slams the chief minister

The story was first reported by US-based Insider. It may be noted that neither Microsoft nor Kipman responded to either confirm or deny the allegations made by the female employees in the 2022 report.

Another BRS leader, Konatham Dileep, said that awarding government projects to a “sexual harasser” was outrageous. “Revanth Reddy encouraging such criminals is despicable. The Telangana government must immediately cancel the agreement made with this individual,” he wrote in an X post.

The outrage from BRS quarters came barely hours after MEIL and Analog executives, including Kipman, met Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday and signed an MoU to develop AI-driven urban infrastructure.

Analog, founded by Kipman in 2023 with backing from Abu Dhabi conglomerate G42, has previously partnered with several firms, including Boston Dynamics, Qualcomm, and Nvidia. The MoU announced on Wednesday builds on Analog’s earlier engagements in Telangana, including agreements signed at the Telangana Rising Global Summit.

Kipman, previously known for leading the development of Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect and HoloLens devices, reportedly exited the company after allegations of sexual harassment led to internal investigations at Microsoft.

However, it is unclear whether Chief Minister Reddy was briefed about Alex Kipman’s background or the controversy surrounding his stint at Microsoft. No questions about these charges were posed to him by the media during his visit and engagements in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
