Telugu films in Sankranthi race 2024

The tradition of releasing films during festival days has a long history in Telugu cinema. At any given moment, movies of big stars have an unprecedented craze at the box office. The projects do good business during festivals.

Targeting festival dates, while devising marketing strategies accordingly, go in full swing. As theatres register good footfalls during festival holidays, small-budget Telugu films also show interest in hitting the screens.

As the festival calendar of this year has been almost full, all eyes are on the next year — Sankranthi 2024.

When will Salaar release?

Any slight change in the release dates would affect the remaining films. For example, Prabhas’ Salaar was supposed to be released this month, but it was delayed because of post-production work.

The other Telugu films that are on the release list are either disappointed or feel happy for not having a collision with the Prabhas-starrer.

If Salaar tries to squeeze between the already-announced films for the Sankranthi festival, other flicks must adjust the dates. Because no one wishes to go in front of a big shark like Salaar.

Such a scenario not only affects other movies but also casts a shadow on the release of projects of the same actor. For example, Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD.

The film is scheduled for a global release on 12 January 2024. It casts Prabhas alongside Deepika Padukone.

It was originally known as Project K and will be released in multiple languages — Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and English.

The movie has an ensemble cast of Kamal Haasan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Disha Patani.

Sankranthi 2024

Here we see, half a dozen Telugu films are set to come before audiences on Sankranthi 2024 — Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram, Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja‘s Eagle, and romantic action potboiler Naa Saami Ranga starring King Nagarjuna Akkineni.

Naa Saami Ranga is directed by Vijay Binni, a popular choreographer. It is produced by Srinivasaa Chitturi under the banner Srinivasaa Silver Screen.

The music is rendered by National Award and Oscar-winner MM Keeravaani. Prasanna Kumar Bezawada wrote the dialogues.

Another film that is in the Sankranthi race is Teja Sajja’s Hanuman. The movie directed by Prasanth Varma features Amritha Aiyer, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Vinay Rai in key roles.

A pan-Indian superhero film, Hanuman is produced by Niranjan Reddy under the PrimeShow Entertainment banner.

It was originally scheduled for release on 12 May 2023 but was postponed to Sankranthi next year due to a delay in post-production work.

Vijay Deverakonda’s untitled Telugu film with director Parasuram Petla is expected to hit the marquee for Sankranthi too. The film is currently in the pre-production stage and will feature Vijay alongside Mrunal Thakur.

Director Petla, who helmed Geetha Govindam (2018), has written the story.

Apart from a couple of films, all the aforementioned movies are undershooting. They have four months in hand. How many would get ready for the Sankranthi 2024 is still a question only time will answer.

Usually, Sankranthi is a big festival, and not more than four Telugu films are released in theatres.

Even movies of big stars from neighbouring industries squeeze themselves into the Sankranthi race every year. It is highly unpredictable to say which flick will see the light of the day!
