Mahesh Babu Guntur Kaaram

The fans of Tollywood Superstar Mahesh Babu believe that the poster of Guntur Kaaram which was dropped on Wednesday, 9 August — marking the actor’s birthday — can ward off the negativity of the forthcoming film.

Ever since the makers announced the project with renowned Telugu director Trivikram, the expectations are running high. However, Trivikram’s credibility took a beating after the release of Bro starring Pawan Kalyan and Sai Dharam Tej.

Fans took to Twitter fuming over Trivikram’s poor dialogues and screenplay in Bro.

Eventually, Mahesh Babu’s upcoming movie (Guntur Kaaram), too, seems to have felt the impact of Bro. Trolls targeted Trivikram’s credibility and expressed doubts if he is trustworthy.

Amid this criticism, the makers of Guntur Kaaram dropped a special poster featuring Mahesh Babu, on the occasion of the Superstar’s birthday. They also announced that the film would be released worldwide on 12 January (for Sankranthi) next year.

This untitled movie — tentatively titled SSMB28 — is the third flick in the combination of Trivikram and Mahesh Babu after Athadu (2005) and Khaleja (2010).

The special poster portrays the Superstar clad in lungi and puffing beedi (a locally produced cut -and-rolled tobacco leaf).

Sreeleela, the reigning female star of today, is playing the love interest of Mahesh in it.

S Thaman is the music composer and PS Vinod is the cinematographer.

Guntur Kaaram is bankrolled by S Radhakrishna and Naga Vamsi under Haarika & Hassine Creations banner.

Preferred Tollywood over pan-Indian films

Unlike other Telugu stars, Mahesh Babu didn’t attempt to go pan-India in his career. He always believed that doing Telugu films alone can fetch him recognition across India and hence, he remained within the Tollywood territory.

But now, his fans hope that the actor would step out from his space and become a pan-India star with ace director SS Rajamouli‘s upcoming flick SSMB29.

However, there seems to be no update from the makers or the Superstar himself about the project, though netizens are often seeking updates on social media from the makers.
