Ravi Teja as Stuartpuram thief Tiger Nageswara Rao

Tiger Nageswara Rao, the name could perhaps ring a bell with old-timers.

Nageswara Rao was a real-life thief from the small sleepy town of Stuartpuram during the 70s and 80s. He had to his credit several escapades involving robberies, jewellery thefts, and bank heists.

A long-forgotten story by now, Tiger Nageswara Rao is revered by the common folks of Stuartpuram in Krishna district because of his generous heart.

And his story is now a commercial film featuring Ravi Teja as the thief himself.

After delivering duds like Ramarao on Duty (2022), not-so-resounding hit Dhamaka (2022) and later Ravanasura (2023), Ravi Teja pinned his hopes on the upcoming film which puts him to the test again.

However, audiences are curious about how the real-life thief is packaged into a commercial potboiler.

The teaser also shows a news report stating that Stuartpuram thief Tiger Nageswara Rao causes a furore among the police circles by escaping from the Madras Central Jail. Police are shocked by Tiger’s Robinhood-like methods and devising tactics to escape the jail walls.

The investigation officer (Murali Sharma) explains the rare skills of the thief.

“Had Nageswara Rao entered politics, he would have won the elections with his intelligence. Had he entered the sports, he

would have won a medal for India in athletics. Had he ventured into the Army, he would have won a war with his bravery. Unfortunately, he became a criminal!”

Actress Nupur Sanon and Gayathri Bharadwaj are playing the leading ladies opposite Ravi Teja in the movie which is slated for release on 20 October for Dasara. Senior actress Renu Desai and Bollywood star Anupam Kher are seen in special roles.

The dialogues are penned by Srikanth Vissa. R Madhiw cranked the camera.

A Robinhood for people of Stuartpuram

Tiger Nageswara Rao was known for executing skilful and practical ideas while going about robberies. And for the people of Stuartpuram, he was gracious as a God because he would distribute the wealth that he acquired from the loot to people.

Tiger and his deputy Gajjala Prasad managed to outsmart officials and escaped prisons. Having had a field run for over a decade-and-a-half, Tiger was killed in an alleged fake encounter by the AP Police in 1987.

His tombstone erected in Stuartpuram railway station is a testament to his bravery and the name that he earned among his people.
