Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday, 9 May, unveiled “Jaganannaku Chebudam”, a programme meant to cut red tape in the government and attend to the grievances of the people immediately.

Jagannanku Chebudam (Let us tell Jagan Anna) was launched by the chief minister at his camp office in Tadepalli near Vijayawada.

He set up a toll-free number — 1902 — for people to get in touch with the government for the redressal of their grievances.

The new helpline

Speaking on the occasion, Jagan said, “I believe this helpline will solve your problems as it is expected to cut delays. Those who lodge a complaint on this helpline will have their problem solved in a time-bound manner.”

He explained that as soon as one called the number and lodged a complaint, it would be registered immediately and the status would be intimated through IVR (interactive voice response).

The complaints and the progress in attending to them would be monitored by the chief minister’s office.

“In fact, the chief minister, the chief secretary, and the DGP will become part of the process of grievance handling,” he stated.

The chief minister, presiding over a meeting of officials, said that the complaints would be addressed at lightning speed as the officials had been asked to treat the problems that the people were bringing to them as though they had received them directly from Jagan.

The aim of the helpline

The scheme is expected to pay rich political dividends to the chief minister and the YSRCP he leads, since it is a direct interaction between the citizens and the government, which makes a difference in the choice of party for the masses at the time of elections.

Another important aspect of the programme is that could help the YSRCP build a good image without the party having to spend anything.

The new scheme could ensure that all the welfare schemes would be implemented in the most transparent way, without any scope for graft.

“This is nothing but making the people partners in governance,” Jagan said.

The people, for instance, could complain if they find found it difficult to access the benefits under YSR Arogya Shree or any land-related issue, or any work that was pending with the government, like the issue of ration cards.

Jagan uses scheme to target TDP

The helpline would be a refreshing departure from the earlier government, which had come to be known for corruption and discrimination, he said.

“The TDP always expected something in return for whatever it did for the people,” he said.

The chief minister said that under the TDP’s rule, no house site patta was distributed to the landless poor. Even welfare schemes used to benefit those who supported the TDP, the chief minister said.

Recalling his padayatra before he came to power, he said that in his peregrination, he came to know about the problems people were facing. He vowed then that the benefits of the welfare schemes would reach the people, regardless of their party affiliations.

The purpose of Jaganannaku Chebudam was to bring about a revolutionary change in the way the administration runs, he said.

  • Explain your problem to the one who answers your call.
  • You would be given your service request (YSR) ID immediately.
  • You would get to know the status of your complaint by way of SMS.
  • After your problem is solved, you will be requested to share your feedback with the government.
