Despite negative reviews, Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 has been praised by superstar Rajinikanth.

Addressing the media outside Chennai airport on 21 July, after returning from a wedding in Kerala with his wife Latha, Rajinikanth also provided updates on his upcoming films—Coolie and Vettaiyan.

When asked about his friend Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, Rajinikanth revealed that he has seen the film and found it “good”.

The actor also updated on director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie, stating that its shooting is “progressing well”.

When asked about the release of his highly anticipated film Vettaiyan, Rajinikanth hinted at a possible postponement, “The release date hasn’t been finalised yet. Dubbing is still going on.”

Fans are speculating that Vettaiyan might be postponed because Rajinikanth previously confirmed a Dasara release during his June trip to the Himalayas. However, he was unable to reaffirm this during his recent media interaction in Chennai.

In June, he said, “Vettaiyan will release for Dasara. I’ve finished my parts, but shooting with the rest of the cast is still going on. The film is expected to release around 10 October.”

Written and directed by TJ Gnanavel of Jai Bhim (2021)-fame, Vettaiyan is produced by Subaskaran Allirajah under Lyca Productions.

The film stars Rajinikanth in the lead role, with Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, and Dushara Vijayan in supporting roles.

Vettaiyan marks a reunion between Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan after 33 years, their last collaboration being the Hindi film Hum (1991).

The title holds special significance for Rajinikanth fans, recalling his iconic role in the blockbuster Chandramukhi (2005). The teaser, released on his 75th birthday, featured Rajinikanth in various avatars, fueling speculation about the multifaceted nature of his character.

The highly anticipated Tamil film will also be released in Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi, ensuring a pan-Indian audience can enjoy its magic.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth’s 171st film Coolie features music by Anirudh and stars Sathyaraj, who last appeared with Superstar in Mr Bharath in 1986.

Shruti Haasan is rumoured to play Rajinikanth’s daughter in the film, marking her first collaboration with the actor. Notably, she appeared with Lokesh Kanagaraj in the music video Inimel, written by Kamal Haasan, who previously collaborated with Lokesh on Vikram (2022).
