Manju Warrier on Rajinikanth's 'Vettaiyan'. (X)
Actor Manju Warrier revealed that she will play Rajinikanth’s wife in the upcoming Tamil film Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel, known for the critically acclaimed Jai Bhim (2021).
“It’s a quintessential Rajinikanth film. After becoming a fan of his work on Jai Bhim, I was especially thrilled to work with TJ Gnanavel. I’m confident Vettaiyan will match that film’s quality while keeping the essential elements of a Rajinikanth movie,” said Manju Warrier, while promoting her forthcoming Malayalam film Footage.
Regarding the release of Vettaiyan, Manju Warrier mentioned that it’s slated for October or November, though she was uncertain if the schedule is being maintained. “I still need to complete my dubbing, but the shooting is finished,” she added.
Currently in post-production, the Rajinikanth-starrer boasts a star-studded cast, including Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Dushara Vijayan, Abhirami, Rithika Singh, and VJ Rakshan.
Fahadh Faasil and Abhirami already started dubbing for their roles in this investigative drama.
Music composer Anirudh Ravichander is collaborating with Rajinikanth for the fourth time. SR Kathir handles the cinematography and Philomin Raj is the editor.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the makers of Vettaiyan are aiming for a release on 30 October, though official confirmation is pending.
On 7 April, the makers announced on social media that the movie would hit the big screens in October but did not specify the exact date.
Rajinikanth’s 170th film has generated significant buzz since its announcement. In December last year, the title teaser for Vettaiyan was unveiled, featuring the Tamil superstar reading a book and carrying a lathi in different scenes.
Meanwhile, Manju Warrier awaits the release of Footage, billed as Malayalam cinema’s first Found Footage film. Directed and edited by Saiju Sreedharan, who co-wrote the script, the film stars Vishak Nair and Gayathri Ashok.
Originally set for release on 2 August, Footage has been postponed due to the Wayanad landslide.
