Malaikottai Vaaliban OTT premiere on 23 February

Mohanlal’s fantasy drama Malaikottai Vaaliban is all set to make its OTT debut on 23 February.

The Malayalam movie will be premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on 23 February — 28 days after its release.

Malaikottai Vaaliban opened to mixed reviews upon its release in theatres on 25 January. However, after receiving a negative response from the audience, the flick could not sustain its run in theatres and incurred losses to the producers.

John Mary Creative, Max Labs, Century Films, and Saregama jointly produced the film.

Mohanlal appeared in the title character as Malaikottai Vaaliban, a wrestler who fights for the oppressed classes.

The Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEOUK) recently raised a serious concern about OTT premieres as Malayalam films are being premiered on OTT platforms in less than 42 days of theatrical release, as proposed by them.

Nevertheless, Malaikottai Vaaliban makers say the film did not do good business in theatres and hence were releasing it on Disney+ Hotstar earlier.

Soon after the release of the movie, director Lijo Jose Pellissery told the media that Malaikottai Vaaliban would be screened in theatres for 28 days and requested people to watch it.

When asked about the lag in the flick, the filmmaker said, “Malaikottai Vaaliban is not a movie with a Ferrari engine to have a fast pace. I have a difference of opinion on this issue.”

Mohanlal claimed that Malaikottai Vaaliban‘s genre was never tested in Indian cinema.

The Malayalam film had an ensemble cast, including Sonalee Kulkarni, Hareesh Peradi, Danish Sait, and Manikandan Achari.

Mohanlal’s previous release Neru was a superhit and entered the ₹100-crore club.

With his next movie Barroz, Mohanal is debuting as a director.

His other movie L2: Empuraan has finished its UK schedule and will soon start the US schedule.

Rambaan is his other project with Joshiy.

The actor recently said he will soon join hands with senior directors Sathyan Anthikad and Priyadarshan.
