neru ₹100 core club

Mohanlal’s Neru has earned ₹100 crore gross collection worldwide in less than a month after its release on 21 December.

The movie, which was made on a small budget, gained an audience after a positive response on the first day.

According to the Sacnilk tracking website, Neru performed well in Kerala and other states and has earned a total of ₹52 crore from India.

Neru becomes blockbuster

Neru received more theatres in Kerala after its tremendous response on the first-day. Neru had tough competition with Prabhas’ Salaar-Part 1 The Ceasefire (2023) and Dunki (2023).

But Neru had the backing of a family audience and the Christmas holiday season helped the movie in the box office.

According to trade experts, Neru earned ₹45.80 crore gross collection becoming the all-time fifth Malayalam grosser in Kerala. The movie has earned around ₹84 crore worldwide.

On its 25th day, the movie earned ₹100 crore and this is purely from theatrical business. The movie was released in 500 theatres in India and around 400 theatres out of the country.

Neru had earlier earned ₹22.37 crore from India on its opening weekend, while 2018 remains at the top place earning ₹25.15 crore. RDX is in third place with ₹22.25 crore, while Kannur Squad earned ₹21.9 crore (opening weekend).

Before Neru, Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan (2016) and Lucifer (2019) had entered the ₹100 crore club.

Neru is an emotional courtroom drama that deals with a socially relevant issue. Anaswara Rajan’s career-break performance is one of the highlights of the movie while it is a comeback movie for Mohanlal who had back-to-back flops.

The movie is directed by Jeethu Joseph and produced by Antony Perumbavoor under his Aashirvad Cinemas.

Remake on cards?

While the movie has become a blockbuster, there are talks going on to remake the movie in other languages. The remake in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada will be done jointly by Aashirvad Cinemas and the respective production houses in these states.

Directed by Jeethu Joseph, Neru became the last blockbuster movie to be released in 2023.

The movie has an ensemble cast including Siddique, Priyamani, Jagadeesh, Sreedhanya, and Aditi Ravi among others.

Santhi Mayadevi, a lawyer by profession, wrote the script of the movie along with Jeethu Joseph. She also appeared as Ahana in the movie.
