Hindi version of The Family Star to be available on Jio Cinema

The Hindi version of Vijay Deverakonda’s recent release, The Family Star, will be available for streaming on Jio Cinema from 28 June.

On Tuesday, 25 June, Jio Cinema revealed the news on its social media platforms.

The Family Star debuted on Amazon Prime Video on 26 April, just 21 days after its theatrical release. As per sources, the Vijay Deverakonda-starrer registered almost 4.5 million streaming minutes on the OTT platform.

The Malayalam and Kannada versions are already available on Amazon Prime Video. However, Jio Cinema acquired the digital streaming rights for the Hindi version of The Family Star.

Directed by Parasuram Petla, The Family Star hit the theatres on 5 April. However, it failed to meet the expectations of fans and audiences and proved to be a box-office dud. Even Vijay Deverakonda’s unusually cool presence and Mrunal Thakur’s charisma couldn’t help the film.

In the Parasuram directorial, Vijay is showcased as a responsible protagonist named Govardhan, who would die for his family. However, the poorly conceived script, illogical scenes, lethargic screenplay, and bad character arcs took a heavy toll on the movie.

Interestingly, The Family Star marked the second collaboration between the actor and the director after Geetha Govindam (2018), a blockbuster musical hit. As a result, it drew huge expectations among Vijay Deverakonda’s fans and film lovers but in vain.

Indeed, industry insiders were confident that the film would help Vijay Deverakonda revive his career, particularly after his previous disaster—Liger (2022), under the direction of Puri Jagannadh. Nevertheless, the actor won the brownie points for his scintillating screen presence and performance.

Though Gopi Sundar’s music was believed to add value to the film, it didn’t work in favour of the film because of the unforgettable soundtrack.

The Family Star also featured Abhinaya, Vasuki, Rohini Hattangadi, Ravi Babu, and Vennela Kishore in key roles. It was produced by Dil Raju under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations. Surprisingly, Dil Raju, too, extensively participated in the film promotions along with the lead actors.

Vijay is also part of VD 14, directed by Rahul Sankrityan. The duo earlier teamed up for Taxiwala, a hit.

VD 14 is a period drama set in the 19th century and will have Rayalaseema region as its backdrop. Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar of Mythri Movie Makers are bankrolling the film.

On Tuesday, 25 June, the makers announced a casting call for Rayalaseema people. They said the auditions will be held from 1 to 9 July from 10 am to 5 pm in Kurnool, Kadapa, Tirupati, and Ananthapuram.

This apart, Vijay Deverakonda also has SVC 59 under the direction of Ravi Kiran Kola. Dil Raju’s Sri Venkateswara Creations is backing this venture, which will also be released in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
