A good effort.

Enaku Endey Kidayaathu (Tamil)

  • Cast: Vikram Ramesh, Swayam Siddha, Shivakumar Raju, and Karthik Venkatraman
  • Director: Vikram Ramesh
  • Producer: Karthik Venkatraman
  • Music: Kalacharan
  • Runtime: 1 hour 45 minutes

Director Vikram Ramesh, a new director for all practical reasons, comes up with a dark comedy that manages to first win your attention and then retain it right till the very end.

What is impressive about this accomplishment is that the film has you hooked to the screen, despite not having any well-known actors in it.

The plot of Enaku Endey Kidayaathu (I Have No End) revolves around four main characters.

The story begins with a young cab driver named Sekar (Vikram Ramesh) waiting to finish the day with one last trip. Sekar is in a hurry to get home as his friend is waiting for him with alcohol.

His last call comes from a man who tells him that he has to drive his boss home from a pub to her residence. Sekar agrees and heads to the pub to pick up his passenger.

An attractive businesswoman named Urvasi (Swayam Siddha) boards his cab in an inebriated state. The driver and his passenger begin to have a conversation and find that they are compatible with one another. By the time he drops her, they are friends and she invites him in for a drink.

The driver gets to know that the lady’s husband is out on a business trip and chooses to take up her offer for a drink.

He enters the posh bungalow and gets to know that it has state-of-the-art security — which is to say its front door has an electronic lock that can only be unlocked by a PIN.

The lady and the driver begin to drink. By the time they are done, Sekar is dead drunk and falls unconscious. A few hours later, when he regains consciousness, he decides to head back to his office.

But just when he looks to freshen up, he realises that there is a dead body in one of the rooms. What happens then is what the film is all about.

Positives and performances

Enaku Endey Kidayaathu is a simple story set in a house. But what makes it interesting is how it is narrated.

It is purely on the strength of his narration that director Vikram Ramesh keeps you interested in his movie.

He also has his actors — Swayam Siddha, Shivakumar Raju (who plays a politician), and Karthik Venkatraman (who plays a thief) — to thank for the splendid manner in which they play their roles to perfection.

Vikram himself does a neat job as the lead character.

Initially, your curiosity keeps you interested in the story. But as it progresses, it also offers humour, especially after the arrival of a thief in the scene.

The film also has fantastic music by Kalacharan which adds to its immense entertainment value.

Verdict

Enaku Endey Kidayaathu might not be an exceptional film, but it certainly is a decent effort by a relatively new young team.
