Tamil Nadu on High Alert after multiple petrol bomb attacks

DGP Dr C Sylendrababu warned that those who involve in activities that disturb public peace would be booked under the National Security Act.

Tamil Nadu has been put on high alert on Sunday, 25 September after multiple petrol bomb attacks have been reported in the state. Petrol bombs were hurled at residences and business establishments of BJP-RSS workers.

Vehicles belonging to BJP-RSS workers were damaged or put on fire at some places. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported in any of these cases. State BJP chief K Annamalai attributed the recent attacks on party members to the PFI.

The NIA, on Thursday, raided and arrested several PFI and SDPI leaders. In Coimbatore alone, at least seven petrol bomb attacks were reported and a petrol bomb was hurled at the BJP district headquarters in the city.

A similar incident was reported at a textile shop and Molotov cocktail was hurled at a welding accessory shop run by a local BJP functionary on 100 Feet Road.

Houses of BJP leaders targeted

Houses of BJP leaders in Kuniyamuthur and Kovaipudur were also targeted. Petrol bomb attacks were also reported at two plywood stores in Mettupalayam as well.

In Madurai, two bike-borne men threw three petrol bombs at the residence of RSS functionary MH Krishnan and RSS member Seetharaman’s house in Tambaram near Chennai was also attacked.

The car shed of a BJP functionary was set ablaze by miscreants, damaging a car and five bikes in Dindugal. Two cars of a BJP sympathiser was set on fire by two men wearing masks and caps in Ramanathapuram.

In light of these incidents, security has been stepped up in different places, especially in Coimbatore. Meanwhile, State BJP Chief K Annamalai wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking necessary directions to the DMK government to maintain law and order. He also sought protection for BJP-RSS members.

Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary V Irai Anbu on Saturday chaired a law and order review meeting with officials from 17 districts. On Sunday, DGP Dr C Sylendrababu warned that those who involve in activities that disturb public peace would be booked under the National Security Act.

The DGP said that 250 persons have been questioned in connection with the cases so far. The guilty will be arrested soon.
