Synopsis: More than 30 lakh Telangana electors who received notices during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls are yet to appear for hearings, with the claims and objections period ending on 7 October.
Over 30 lakh electors in Telangana who were served notices during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls are yet to appear for hearings, according to data released by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Tuesday, 29 September.
The claims and objections period ends on 7 October. The final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on 9 November.
As of 29 September, the Election Commission had generated 92,88,180 of the 92,88,181 notices required to be issued to electors whose entries showed anomalies or could not be mapped to the 2002 electoral records. Only one notice is yet to be generated.
Of the notices generated, 88,52,173 have been delivered to electors, while 4,36,007 are yet to be served.
The CEO’s office said 61,87,444 hearings had been conducted so far. Of these cases, 48,88,076 electors had been found eligible for inclusion in the final electoral roll, while 12,99,368 cases were under verification by District Electoral Officers (DEOs).
The revision has also placed 73,39,235 voters in the Absent / Shifted / Dead / Duplicate Categories (ASDD) list. Electors placed in the ASDD category are required to submit Form 6 and enrol as new voters, along with a declaration and supporting documents.

The contentious SIR exercise was first rolled out in Bihar in June 2025 and has since been extended across most of the country in three phases.
The first phase was completed in September 2025. The second phase, completed in April 2026, covered Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, as well as the Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Puducherry.
The third phase is now under way in 16 States and three Union Territories, including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana.
The Election Commission has since struck more than 13 crore names off the draft electoral rolls across 30 States and Union Territories.
The scale of the deletions, as well as questions over the legality of the exercise, have put the Commission and its handling of the SIR under intense public scrutiny.
