BRS working president KT Rama Rao slammed the Telangana Police after BRS MLA Sunitha Lakshma Reddy accused personnel of pulling her saree and misbehaving with her during a protest.
He underlined how it contradicted what Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi preaches.
“Rahul Gandhi calls for smashing patriarchy, but here in Congress-run Telangana, the Congress police are smashing and thrashing our women MLAs, all because they were wearing black sarees?” KTR alleged in a post on X.
“Former Home Minister and MLA Sabithakka (Patlolla Sabitha Indra Reddy) smashed patriarchy before even you understood politics. Shame on you all. Absolute disgrace,” KTR went on to add, before terming the way the police acted “a blot on Indian democracy”.
He also wondered if it had something to do with the Telangana MLAs wearing black.
“Also, can someone tell me if black is banned in Telangana? Is black allowed only in the Parliament?” he asked.
The BRS MLAs had worn black as the Telangana Assembly reconvened to highlight the failures of the Revanth Reddy government even after over 1,000 days in power.
The T-shirts that the MLAs wore carried the slogans: “Congress Failed to Deliver on Its Promises” and “1,000 Days of Failed Governance.”
The Revanth Reddy government was sworn in on December 7, 2023.
Critics have condemned its failure to deliver on the six guarantees that swept it to power despite the 1,000-day mark having passed.
Konda Surekha, who was recently sacked, had also raised the banner of revolt against the government.
“What happened to me today will happen to you tomorrow. So at least now, please come out. Share the issues you have and struggles you have been facing in the current administration. You know you can’t serve the people. That’s why all of you need to talk about it publicly,” she said, while goading other disgruntled MLAs to air their grievances.
Before that, another Congress MLA, Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, had lashed out against the government for what he saw as corruption by those in power.
“We will seek accountability from those who are misusing power and looting lakhs of crores. We will fight against the corrupt; do not test our patience and assume it is our incompetence. If need be, we will stand for students, the unemployed, women and farmers, and fight against corruption,” Reddy had said.
Earlier, KTR, Harish Rao were detained during BRS protest ahead of Telangana Assembly session.
