Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekar Rao, on Friday, 30 June, once again made a strong pitch for continuing the Dharani portal — the state government’s initiative for land records management — in the wake of the Congress and the BJP asserting that they would scrap it altogether if they come to power.
Addressing a huge public meeting at Asifabad after inaugurating the distribution of podu land pattas to about 1.5 lakh tribals across the state, KCR said that if the Dharani portal is wound up, the dark days of corrupt staff fleecing innocent farmers would return.
He said that though the Opposition parties are demanding that it should be wound up, the people would want its continuance as it addresses all their issues relating to lands, including registrations, without any delay. There was no need for anyone to follow cumbersome, long, and painful procedures anymore, the chief minister stated.
He said that if Dharani is disbanded, transferring of the Ryuthu Bandhu incentive to the farmers’ bank accounts would become a problem.
He stated that people would have to run from pillar to post for the resolution of land disputes and they would have to grease the palms of the staff to get their work done.
Referring to the distribution of pattas for podu lands, he said that it gave him immense pleasure to do so. He said that the pattas are being issued in the name of the women of the household and that the land would have three-phase power supply.
The chief minister further announced that all the cases registered against tribals in connection with clashes over ownership of podu lands would be withdrawn, as there was no sense in continuing them seeing that the tribals are now their rightful owners.
They would also be eligible for the Rythu Bandhu incentive — ₹10,000 per acre per year.

The chief minister directed the power utilities to provide three-phase power supply to the lands owned by the tribals in all villages, including those located in interior areas.
Meanwhile, IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao demanded an unconditional apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of the tribals of Telangana for not taking measures to set up a tribal university, as promised in the AP State Reorganisation Act of 2014.
Addressing a public meeting after distributing podu pattas to tribals in Mahabubabad, he said that after the Centre made the promise, the state government had allotted 360 acres of land in Mulugu, but there has been no response from the Centre since.

He pointed out that the Centre has forgotten yet another promise that it would set up a steel factory in Bayyaram and a railway coach factory at Kazipet. Now, instead of a coach factory, the Centre is setting up a railway periodic overhauling unit, he said.
KTR said that the prime minister owes an explanation to the people when he visits Warangal on 8 July. The Centre, on the other hand, had set up a coach factory in Gujarat with an investment of ₹21,000 crore.
“How is Telangana different from Gujarat? Why this discrimination?” KTR asked, wondering whether Modi was the prime minister for the entire country or only for Gujarat.

He made an appeal to the people not to trust the Congress leaders who come out with a bagful of tricks to come to power in the state.
“They are outright liars. Don’t believe them. They had cheated the people for 50 years and now they are coming to us to cheat us once again. Don’t be misled by them,” he said, exhorting people to support KCR in the elections as he had been keeping the interests of all sections of people in his mind and going to their rescue in times of their need.
