JP Nadda in Telangana

BJP national president JP Nadda on Sunday, 25 June, said the Dharani portal — a one-stop destination for carrying out agricultural land registrations in Telangana — would be abolished if the BJP was voted to power in the next Assembly elections in the state.

Addressing the BJP’s Nava Sankalp public meeting organised by the state unit in the Nagarkunool district of Telangana, he said the portal was filling the pockets of the BRS leaders.

Describing the BRS as “Bhrashtachar Rakshasula Samithi”, he got a negative reply from the people who came to attend the public meeting when he asked whether they supported corruption.

The Dharani e-governance revenue portal was once seen as a revolutionary step as it digitalised Telangana’s land administration assuring transparency.

The current consensus is that it has now turned into a nightmare for lakhs of citizens.

However, the BRS government in Telangana has not taken kindly to criticism of this initiative.

Earlier this month, Telangana Chief Minister and BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao said at a public meeting in the Adilabad district that those criticising the Dharani portal must be dumped in the Bay of Bengal.

Incidentally, Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy on 12 May said land disputes in Telangana had increased manifold after the commencement of the Dharani portal.

Given the progression of the tussle over the portal, it would not be surprising to see Dharani becoming a political issue in the upcoming Telangana Assembly electiions.

‘High inflation in Telangana’

He said inflation was highest in Telangana when compared to other states in the country. One family, which is ruling Telangana exploited the state and it is unfortunate, he said.

“If you want the country to develop further then you must support and vote for Modi. If you want family rule then you can vote for them,” he said.

Nadda termed the meeting of the Opposition leaders held in Patna a few days ago a “photo session”.

The RJD, Samajwadi Party, TMC, and Uddav Thackeray’s Shiv Shena faction were only interested in protecting their families but Prime Minister Narendra Modi was striving for the overall development of the country, he said.

“The Covid-19 pandemic and the war between Ukraine and Russia financially affected several countries. However, the Prime Minister controlled the inflation and strengthened the country financially and made it the fifth largest economy in the world,” he added.

‘Congress unable to digest Modi’s efforts’

He said that unable to digest Modi’s sincere effort the Congress made unnecessary remarks against him and called him ‘Chaiwala.’

Modi was returning to the country today and he was the only Prime Minister, who got Egypt’s highest state honour, Nadda said.

“We should feel proud of it,” Nadda said stating that the central government was according to a top priority for the development of Telangana.

He recalled that Modi laid the foundation stone for various projects especially related to railways worth ₹11,300 crore in Telangana a few months ago.

Two Vande Bharat trains were already operating from the state and a mega textile park was also sanctioned for the state apart from getting a UNESCO world heritage site tag to Ramappa Temple in Mulugu and the redevelopment of Secunderabad railway station, he said.
