Cracks in G9

Fissures appeared in the group of nine senior leaders — known as G9 —  who revolted against the Telangana Congress state president A Revanth Reddy, after the legislature party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka attended a convention organised by the party in Hyderabad on Wednesday, 4 January.

The G9 comprised Bhatti, Kodanda Reddy, MLAs D Sridhar Babu and T Jagga Reddy, former Telangana Congress president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, former MP Madhu Yashki Goud, former deputy chief minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha, former MLA A Maheswar Reddy and senior leader V Hanumantha Rao.

Except for Bhatti and Kodanda Reddy, the remaining group members did not attend the meeting even after senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh discussed it with them a few days ago.

Singh visited the city to resolve the crisis in the Telangana Congress after the G9 members’ revolted against Revanth Reddy.

The disgruntled leaders even rejected Congress national president M Mallikarjun Kharge’s request over the phone to attend the meeting.

Sources said the chinks in the G9 were exposed after Bhatti and Kodanda Reddy attended the meeting.

Addressing the party leaders at the meeting, Revanth Reddy found fault with Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to respond properly when neighbouring China was attempting to encroach on the country’s border areas.

He said a charge sheet would be released soon, highlighting the failures of the central and state governments and added that future action plans would be prepared in consultation with various experts.

In 2023, the country would be experiencing the same situation it faced in 2003 and it would be the Congress that would come to the rescue of the people by resolving their problems, he added.

“If we put up a united fight in the next elections, we will certainly come to power,” Revanth Reddy said, adding that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was not a problem and it is easy to defeat him in the next elections if everyone works hard for the party’s victory.
