Prajwal Revanna

Hassan’s incumbent MP Prajwal Revanna’s polling agent has filed a police complaint alleging that some morphed photos and videos of the JD(S) leader are being widely circulated in the district.

The polling agent, identified as Poornachandra Thejaswi MG, filed the complaint at the Cybercrime Police Station in Hassan on 23 April.

Incidentally, the chairperson of Karnataka State Commission for Women, Dr Nagalakshmi Chowdry, wrote a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah — on Thursday, 25 April — demanding that a special investigative team probe the matter. She alleged that a prominent politician in Hassan was exploiting women and blackmailing them with sleazy videos.

The complaint

In the complaint, Poornachandra Thejaswi alleged that ahead of the polling of the second phase for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on Friday, the accused — one Naveen and others — morphed photos and videos of Hassan Lok Sabha seat’s NDA nominee Prajwal Revanna.

BJP is fighting the Lok Sabha elections in alliance with JD(S) in Karnataka. The regional party has therefore joined the NDA, and has put up candidates for only three Lok Sabha seats in the state.

“The accused have created obscene videos and photos using morphed pictures of Prajwal Revanna,” said Thejaswi.

“These accused are going door to door and showing these obscene photos and videos, provoking people not to vote for Prajwal in the Lok Sabha elections. These efforts are being made to disrupt the polling,” he added, demanding action against the culprits.

The police have registered a case under the sections of the Information Technology Act of 2008 and the Indian Penal Code.
