Ullozhukku to release on 21 June

Actors Urvashi and Parvathy Thiruvothu join forces for the upcoming Malayalam film Ullozhukku.

It is helmed by Christo Tomy, best known for the Netflix true-crime documentary Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case (2023).

Bankrolled by RSVP and MacGuffin Pictures, the movie marks the first collaboration between Urvashi and Parvathy.

Meanwhile, the makers unveiled a brief teaser on Monday, 3 June. The teaser showcases Parvathy and Prasant Murali of Kasargold (2023) in wedding attire, posing for a photo on a wobbly boat.

Composer Sushin Shyam of Manjummel Boys (2024) fame is scoring the music for the project.

The film also stars Shebin Benson, Arjun Radhakrishnan, Veena Nair, and Alencier Ley Lopez.

Ullozhukku will be released in theatres on 21 June.

Ullozhukku distinguished itself by winning the Cinestaan India Storytellers Contest for scriptwriting in 2018, with the now-acclaimed Hindi film Laapataa Ladies (2024) taking second place.

The jury featured esteemed members such as Rajkumar Hirani, Aamir Khan, Anjum Rajabali, and Juhi Chaturvedi.

Christo Tomy won the top prize of ₹25 lakh for the script.

Christo graduated from the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) in Kolkata in 2015. Later, he proceeded to assist the renowned director Adoor Gopalakrishnan in the production of Pinneyum (2016).

He drew significant inspiration from Hungarian filmmaker István Szabó, particularly admiring his incorporation of non-linear storytelling and dream sequences in his works such as Lovefilm (1970) and 25 Fireman’s Street (1973).

Meanwhile, Parvathy’s most recent Malayalam film was Puzhu (2022), where she played the role of Mammootty’s sister.

Puzhu was helmed by debutant Ratheena PT and penned by Harshad, Suhas, and Sharfudheen. It marked the first collaboration between Parvathy and Mammootty.

Further, Parvathy awaits the release of Thangalaan. The Tamil film, directed by Pa Ranjith, has Chiyaan Vikram in the lead.

She also appeared in Anjali Menon’s OTT release Wonder Women (2022) and the Hindi film Kadak Singh (2023).

Veteran actor Urvashi, who did over 700 films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi, was last seen in Suresh Mari’s J Baby (2024).
