In a shocking development for the fans of Tamil superstar Vijay, the City Civil Court in Hyderabad on Tuesday, 17 October, issued restraining orders to stop the screening of the actor’s much-awaited movie Leo on 19 October.

The orders came following a complaint lodged by one Narasimha Reddy on the usage of the title “Leo“.

Soon after the injunction order was issued by the court against the Telugu version of Leo, producer S Naga Vamsi, who bought the theatrical rights of Leo for the Telugu states, told the media that they were sorting out the issue and the film would be released as planned on 19 October.

He also assured that the 7 am shows of Leo would be held in the Telugu states as per schedule. “Only the Telugu version of Leo landed in trouble over the title and not the Tamil version. The Tamil producers registered the title in all languages and not me. I learnt about the controversy only through the media since the petitioner approached the court directly, instead of us.”

He also oozed confidence that the issue would be solved amicably since the film had already been censored.

“There was a slight miscommunication. The complainant approached the court directly without consulting us. It was claimed that the title Leo was already registered somewhere in Vijayawada. We’re sorting out the issue in an amicable manner with the complainant because he registered the title and shouldn’t be at a loss. Also, a film featuring a star like Vijay can’t be stopped at this juncture. If this is resolved, there will be no further impediment to the release of the Telugu version of Leo,” Naga Vamsi added.

The producer also noted that there has been a good response to the advance bookings in the Telugu states and the film would have a great run in theatres till Dasara.

Meanwhile, the Telugu version of Leo is not leading in advance bookings in its native state of Tamil Nadu, but elsewhere in the country. Fans kept sharing the updates on Twitter.

On the other side, film buffs expressed that Leo might topple other two movies that are releasing on the same date — Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Bhagavanth Kesari and Ravi Teja’s Tiger Nageswara Rao.

Leo is one of the most-anticipated films after Prabhas’ Salaar.

The Vijay-starrer is made with a budget of ₹250-300 crore. Thalapathy is reportedly paid ₹120 crore as remuneration.

It already recovered its budget and made more money for its producers through theatrical and non-theatrical rights.
