Malavika Mohanan is the female lead in The Raja Saab

In a special birthday announcement on Sunday, 4 August, the makers of The Raja Saab said Malavika Mohanan will star alongside Prabhas in the Telugu film.

Director Maruthi warmly welcomed her as the female lead, through an X post. This surprise news excited fans and created a buzz in the industry.

On 29 July, the first glimpse of Prabhas’s upcoming pan-India film The Raja Saab was released. Directed by Maruthi, this horror romantic comedy is set to hit theatres on 25 April 2025.

The 45-second teaser shows Prabhas, in the titular role, arriving on a motorcycle, wearing a suit and sunglasses, and holding a bouquet. He confidently admires his reflection in a car mirror.

Produced by People Media Factory with music by SS Thaman, The Raja Saab features an ensemble cast including Nidhhi Agerwal and Riddhi Kumar in key roles, along with Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Jisshu Sengupta, and Brahmanandam.

The film will be released in five languages—Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.

About Thangalaan

Meanwhile, Malavika Mohanan is in Hyderabad promoting her forthcoming Tamil movie Thangalaan, which is set to be one of 2024’s biggest releases. On Malavika Mohanan’s birthday, the makers of Thangalaan revealed a new poster featuring her as Aarathi, a local deity in Kolar Gold Fields.

The actor’s character, draped in traditional cloth and adorned with chunky tribal jewellery, highlights her cultural roots and connection to the land. Her striking, authentic appearance—holding a large wooden stick with a fierce sideways gaze—embodies strength and resilience.

Directed by Pa Ranjith, Vikram’s Thangalaan also stars Parvathy Thiruvothu, Pasupathy, Daniel Caltagirone, and Hari Krishnan.

Bankrolled by Neelam Productions and Studio Green, Thangalaan will be released on 15 August, clashing with Keerthy Suresh’s Raghu Thatha and Arulnithi’s Demonte Colony 2. Its audio launch is expected to take place at 6 pm at Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam.

Thangalaan stands out as an experimental project, showcasing the evolving boundaries of South Indian cinema.

The film portrays British exploitation and looting of the fields, bringing a pivotal historical chapter to light through a unique cinematic approach. The historical adventure also explores the role of oppressed communities in South India’s gold exploration.

Meanwhile, Malavika Mohanan recently joined the cast of Sardar 2 (with the team welcoming Kannada actor Ashika aboard on 5 August). Sardar 2 is a sequel to the 2022 film Sardar. It stars Karthi in the lead and is directed by PS Mithran.

Well, 2024 promises to be a busy year for the actor, with numerous project announcements delighting her fans.
