Entertainment is not just films: Bobby Balachandran
So, how did the head of a world-famous tech company suddenly decide to enter the Tamil entertainment industry?
“As an entrepreneur, you find problems and look to solve them in the best possible way. We see people’s desire to watch quality content growing, and I thought this field was ripe and open. Therefore, I chose to enter it,” Bobby Balachandran tells South First.
Bobby, known for making several innovative changes in the way his employees work, says the entertainment industry presents a lot of opportunities for innovation.
“When I say entertainment, I don’t mean just films. Films, of course, are an important part of entertainment. But we will also be looking at other modes of entertainment,” the tech head points out.
Asserting that his firm was not confining itself to innovate about just scripts, Bobby explains, “How do you manage film production? For instance, we will bring in automation to ensure all those working on a film are paid on time. The process will also be transparent. In short, we will bring the best practices of other industries to the entertainment industry.”

‘Will bring about changes in Kollywood’
The changes that Bobby intends to bring about in financial management could herald in better times for several junior artists and junior technicians working on a film as they, more often than not, get paid only half of what they are promised or worse, not paid at all.
Bobby Balachandran has no doubts whatsoever about his decision to enter a new industry. “I’ve done my research. I would not have entered this industry if I was not confident,” says he, sporting a reassuring smile.
The man, who migrated to the US 24 years ago and passed out from Oregon State University, reveals that he has several films in the pipeline.
“We are starting with Demonte Colony 2. I want to show you how the film has come out. I strongly believe it will be the horror comedy of the decade. It has come out 10 times better than the first part of Demonte Colony (2015), which was a blockbuster,” the tech firm CEO explains.
More films in pipeline
Bobby Balachandra says he believes in his firm having a diversified portfolio. After Demonte Colony 2, his firm will release a comedy that will be a multi-starrer. “The film is almost over. Only one week of shooting is left.”
The third film that Bobby’s firm is currently producing is a crime thriller by a top director and a top hero. The fourth is a black comedy on the verge of being finalised.
Ask him how he will find time as he already has enough on his plate, and Bobby shoots back, “I believe in people, process and technology. When you have the right people who give you the right information to make the right decisions, everything is possible!”
