Raghu Thatha to clash with Pushpa: The Rule

The renowned production house Hombale Films, known for their successful ventures like the KGF franchise (2018, 2022) and Kantara (2022), is venturing into Tamil cinema with their upcoming project, Raghu Thatha, featuring Keerthy Suresh in the lead role.

Raghu Thatha is slated for release in theatres, coinciding with Independence Day, on 15 August this year.

The film, described as a humorous and satirical portrayal, follows the journey of a young woman named Kayalvizhi (played by Keerthy Suresh) as she endeavours to “preserve the identity of her land and its people.”

In the teaser, which appears to be set in the 1980s, Kayalvizhi is depicted fighting against the imposition of Hindi.

Directed by Suman Kumar, known for his work on the popular Hindi thriller series, The Family Man (2019), Raghu Thatha also features MS Bhaskar, Devadarshini, and Ravindra Vijay in key roles.

In a statement, producer Vijay Kiragandur described Raghu Thatha as a comedy-drama centred around a resilient and determined woman who discovers her individuality by questioning conventions, standing firm on her beliefs, advocating for them, and ultimately emerging as a source of inspiration for all.

Delivered with humour, the film guarantees to evoke laughter from every family member while also prompting introspection, he added.

Additionally, the film stars Rajeev Ravindranathan (of English Vinglish fame), Jayakumar, Anandsami, KS Mippu, Ismath Banu, Aadhira Pandilakshmi, Rajesh Balachandiran, Janaki and Chu Khoy Sheng.

Raghu Thatha has camerawork by Yamini Yagnamurthy, who also shot Keerthy’s Saani Kaayidham (2022).

While Sean Roldan is the music director, TS Suresh handles the editing.

Interestingly, Raghu Thatha will clash at the box office with Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rule.

It was Pushpa‘s makers, who decided first that their film will release on 15 August.

Written and directed by Sukumar, the sequel to Pushpa: The Rise (2021), the film also features Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil in lead roles.

Produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar of Mythri Movie Makers in collaboration with Sukumar Writings, Pushpa 2, features music by Devi Sri Prasad, cinematography by Miroslaw Kuba Brozek, and editing by Ruben and Karthika Srinivas.
