Telugu watchlist: Big stars to lock horns with small heroes this October

October might witness a shuffle in release dates. Including the ones starring top heroes, the other lineup of releases includes small-budget flicks in the comedy genre and family entertainers.

Here are the top five Telugu films that are likely to show their strength at the box office this month:

Mad

A bunch of youngsters are coming up to dish out some non-stop laughter. This Telugu flick is scheduled for release in theatres on 6 October.

It is directed by Kalyan Shankar. It features Narne Nithiin, Ram Nithin and Sangeeth Shobhan in the lead roles. Sri Gouri Priya Reddy, Ananthika Sanilkumar and Gopikaa Udyan are the leading ladies.

Produced by Haarika Suryadevara and Sai Soujanya under the banner Haarika & Hassine Creations and Sithara Entertainments, Mad tells the quirky tale of college life and the drama between seniors and juniors in a typical engineering college.

Rules Ranjann

Rules Ranjann, this Telugu romantic comedy, seems to have gained considerable buzz because of its trailer. The film is hitting the screens worldwide on 6 October.

Directed by Rathinam Krishna, son of renowned film producer AM Ratnam, Rules Ranjann features Kiran Abbavaram and Neha Shetty in the lead.

The story is about a software employee named Mano Ranjan (Kiran Abbavaram) who lives by a strict set of rules. How his life takes an unexpected curve when he renews his friendship with Sana (Neha Shetty), a classmate from his school days forms the crux of the flick.

The movie is also shot in Mumbai and stars actor Makrand Desh Pandey and Anu Kapoor in key roles.

Rules Ranjann looks to be a heartfelt comedy with characters like Vennela Kishore, Subbaraju, Hyper Aadhi, Viva Harsha and Annu Kapoor.

Tillu Square

Siddhu Jonnalagadda plays Bala Gangadhar Tilak, also known as DJ Tillu in Tillu Square, which seems to be one of the highly anticipated movies at the Telugu box office.

Anupama Parameswaran plays Tillu’s love interest in the film.

Muralidhar Goud played Tillu’s father, Praneeth Reddy Kallem is Marcus, Tillu’s friend, and Raj Tirandas and Fish Venkat appear in key roles.

Directed by Mallik Ram and produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi, Tillu Square is all set to release in theatres this month. But it is expected to get delayed due to unknown reasons.

Tiger Nageswara Rao

Tiger Nageswara Rao starring Ravi Teja in the titular role, is scheduled to arrive in theaters on 20 October. The movie will be released in Telugu along with dubbed versions of Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam languages.

The story of real-life thief Nageswara Rao, the film is a crucial one for Ravi Teja to be in the game. After delivering duds like Ramarao on Duty (2022) and Ravanasura (2023), the actor is optimistic about this thief story.

Notorious burglar Rao operated in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh in the 1970s and 1980s. He committed as many as 100 robberies, bank robberies, as well as jewellery and bank heists.

Written and directed by Vamsee, Tiger Nageswara Rao is produced by Abhishek Agarwal under the banner of Abhishek Agarwal Arts.

The film’s music is composed by GV Prakash Kumar. R Madhie is the cinematographer.

Bhagavanth Kesari

Bhagavanth Kesari is another biggest flick of the season. Starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, the Telugu movie is an action drama released on 19 October.

Directed by Anil Ravipudi, the film stars Arjun Rampal, Kajal Aggarwal, and Sreeleela in the lead roles.

It is produced by Sahu Garapati and Harish Peddi under the Shine Screens banner.

The music is composed by S Thaman and the cinematography is handled by C Ram Prasad.

The story is about Nelakonda Bhagavanth Kesari played by Balayya who is determined to lock horns with influential businessman Rahul Sanghvi for his personal loss. He is prepared to square off against the formidable foe and resolve their issues amicably.

Meanwhile, film buffs are drawing similarities with Khuda Gawa (1992) starring Nagarjuna and Amitabh Bachchan.
