Thangalaan to release on 15 August

It is official now. Vikram’s Thangalaan will be released in theatres on 15 August, coinciding with Independence Day.

Producer Dhananjayan, in an interview with Galatta Tamil on Friday, 19 July, disclosed that Thangalaan will be released on 15 August for Independence Day. The makers also unveiled a poster announcing the release date.

Directed by Pa Ranjith, Thangalaan is a historical action drama. The recently released two-minute trailer was packed with drama and intense action sequences. It also had some gritty and rustic scenes.

The trailer and posters showcased Vikram in a different avatar. The Tamil actor is well-known for his physical transformations in films like Sethu (1999), I (2015), and Anniyan (2005).

The Thangalaan trailer ends with a powerful statement, “Only those brave enough to face death truly live here.” It surely made Vikram’s fans happy as his previous theatrical release, Cobra (2022), missed the mark.

The story of Thangalaan is set against the backdrop of the Kolar Gold Fields in Karnataka. The main characters belong to an indigenous tribe, who visit the Kolar Gold Fields following the instructions of a British officer. This interesting storyline piqued the interest of movie buffs.

The film features Malavika Mohanan as a sorceress in a parallel storyline. It also casts Parvathy Thiruvothu, Pasupathy, Hollywood actor Daniel Caltagirone, and Harikrishnan Anbudurai in crucial roles.

Thangalaan is jointly produced by Studio Green and Neelam Productions. GV Prakash Kumar is the music director. He is working with Pa Ranjith for the first time.

Tamil Prabha is the co-writer, Selva RK is the editor, and SS Murthi is the art director.

Writer Azhagiya Periyavan, who penned the dialogues for Thangalaan, said it is a period film that portrays the displaced Tamils.

According to Pa Ranjith, the team aimed to present a historical adventure rooted in real events, bolstered by Vikram’s exceptional dedication and the collective effort of the entire team.

Thangalaan will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
