'Kanguva' release: Gnanavel Raja doesn't want to vie with Rajinikanth's 'Vettaiyan'

Suriya, who had a cameo in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Vikram (2022), is gearing up for the release of his next film—Kanguva. Directed by Siva, this epic period action drama will be released in both 2D and 3D formats across 10 languages.

In a recent interview, producer KE Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green disclosed that Kanguva will be a two-part movie and the video clip is currently circulating on social media.

He indicated that Kanguva will conclude with an intriguing twist, setting the stage for a sequel that promises to captivate the audience.

He also mentioned that filming for the sequel will begin by late 2025, with Kanguva Part 2 anticipated to be released in early 2027 (possibly in January or during the summer holidays).

The makers of Suriya’s Kanguva have officially set its theatrical release for 10 October. This led to speculation that the film could potentially clash with Rajinikanth’s Vettiayan, also scheduled for an October release.

Initially, the makers of Vettaiyan hinted at an October release without confirming a specific date. With Kanguva now confirming its release date, fans are anticipating a potential box-office clash between the two movies.

However, Gnanavel Raja expressed his respect for Rajinikanth and clarified that they do not intend to release Kanguva at the same time as his (Rajinikanth).

“Team Vettaiyan is targeting a Diwali release and is actively working towards that. They have no intentions to release the film on 10 October, and I won’t choose to compete with Rajini sir.”

Kanguva features a diverse cast such as Bobby Deol, Disha Patani in her Tamil debut, Natarajan Subramaniam, Jagapathi Babu, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Anandaraj, and KS Ravikumar.

The cinematography is handled by Vetri Palanisamy, the editing by Nishadh Yusuf, and the music is composed by Devi Sri Prasad.

Meanwhile, Suriya is currently busy filming his 44th untitled movie directed by Karthik Subbaraj. The romantic action drama also stars Pooja Hegde, Jayaram, Joju George, and Karunakaran. The film’s music is being crafted by Santhosh Narayanan.

After this, the Soorarai Pottru (2020) actor is gearing up to start his long-awaited project with Vetrimaaran—Vaadivaasal.
