Mamitha Baiju's Tamil debut 'Rebel' misses the mark

Mamitha Baiju has become an overnight sensation in Tollywood more than her native Malayalam industry. Thanks to her recent film Premalu, which made good money even in the Telugu states.

Meanwhile, Mamitha Baiju’s Tamil debut Rebel was released last week. The flick had the actor playing the leading lady. She was paired up with GV Prakash Kumar, who played the protagonist.

Her portrayal mostly has slow-motion shots with unexplained smiles, which was a big letdown compared to her lively performance in Premalu.

After watching Rebel, fans and netizens took to X and expressed deep disappointment with the film’s outcome. They opined that it was not her fault but rather the poorly-written character that Rebel was a flop.

Directed by Nikesh RS, Rebel is inspired by true events and adopts a raw filmmaking style similar to filmmaker Vetrimaaran’s works.

Regrettably, the movie’s execution fell short and resulted in its flop.

Despite a promising storyline, poor direction and ineffective storytelling led to a disjointed narrative lacking emotional connection. Subsequently, Rebel‘s box office performance staged a poor show.

Mamitha Baiju had committed to this film long before the release of Premalu, which catapulted her to stardom.

Hence, her fans started defending her saying that she shouldn’t bear responsibility for accepting a role in a disappointing film. Her fans on X advised her to exercise caution while selecting future projects.

With her natural charm and acting prowess, she has the potential to rise as a popular leading lady if she selects her roles wisely. Otherwise, she risks being labelled a one-hit wonder.
