SS Rajamouli compares 'Premalu' actor Mamitha with Girija Shettar and Sai Pallavi

Prominent filmmaker SS Rajamouli has said watching the latest blockbuster Premalu gave him sheer enjoyment.

Addressing the Premalu success meet at Ramanaidu Studios in Hyderabad on Tuesday, 12 March, Rajamouli said he couldn’t stop laughing throughout the film.

He fondly mentioned specific scenes in Premalu while praising the performances of the lead pair Mamitha Baiju and Naslen, along with supporting characters Akhila Bhargavan and Shyam.

The ace filmmaker predicted that Premalu actor Mamitha Baiju would emerge as the next heartthrob in South cinema.

He also compared her with former actor Girija Shettar, who became popular with the 1989 Akkineni Nagarjuna-starrer Geethanjali, and actor Sai Pallavi.

The Baahubali (2015 and 2017) director acknowledged that the Malayalam film industry boasts amazing actors. However, Rajamouli hastened to add that he said it with “jealousy and pain”.

‘Rom-Coms not my favourite’

Admitting that he dislikes comedy and rom-com films since his favourite genre has always been action, Rajamouli said he didn’t think much when his son Karthikeya expressed his wish to release Premalu in Telugu.

But after watching it in the theatre, he admitted that the story blew his mind away.

The RRR (2020) filmmaker also accorded the primary credit to the writer in Telugu.

He applauded Malayalam filmmakers for their meticulous attention to each character, care and design, and the detailed focus on characterisation and story.

He congratulated Premalu director Girish AD for maintaining the legacy of their predecessors in Malayalam cinema, who are highly admired by Telugu audiences.

Concluding his speech, he commended team Premalu for maintaining the esteemed reputation established by their predecessors in Malayalam cinema, highly revered among Telugu audiences.

Anil Ravipudi lauds Telugu writer

Director Anil Ravipudi said he could not watch the original version of Premalu despite repeated requests from his friends.

But when the Telugu dubbed version hit the theatres in Telangana, there was a cacophony on X.

He said #PremaluTelugu kept trending because of his storyline and taking.

He added, “That’s when I happened to watch with a full house in Prasads. It was mindblowing. I thank Karthikeya and team Aditya Haasan. Dialogues were so beautifully written. Even though a few don’t sync with the original lines, Telugu dialogues have become catchy because of their freshness.”
