Tamil watchlist for March 2024

Tamil cinema faced a challenging period during February 2024. With only one big release — Jayam Ravi’s Siren, the month did not witness any significant successes.

However, Siren did not do great business as expected and turned out to be an average film.

Meanwhile, some old Tamil films like Billa (2007) starring Ajith Kumar, Surya’s Vaaranam Aayiram (2008), and Gautam Menon’s Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya (2010) were re-released in theatres.

In March too, there are no big releases scheduled. Speculations are rife that Dhruva Natchathiram, starring Vikram and directed by Gautam Vasudev Menon, will hit the screens. However, it is not yet confirmed.

The film was supposed to be released on 24 November 2023. But it was postponed following a legal case against Gautam Menon.

So, March 2024 will witness the release of a couple of small and medium-budget Tamil films. Let’s check them out:

Por

Director Bejoy Nambiar’s Tamil-Hindi bilingual film Por will be released on 1 March 2024.

The Tamil version features Kalidas Jayaram and Arjun Das.

TJ Bhanu and Sanchana Natarajan are the female leads.

Actor Arya released the trailer of the movie recently.

In the Hindi version Dange, Harshvardhan Rane and Ehan Bhatt play the key roles.

Nikita Dutta and TJ Bhanu are the supporting actors.

Por is a high-octane action thriller. It is produced by Bhushan Kumar of T-Series.

Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha

Gautam Vasudev Menon’s Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha will be finally released in cinema halls on 1 March. The Tamil movie was awaiting the release date for a long time.

It is an action-packed entertainer.

Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha casts Varun and Raahei in the lead.

In the trailer, released recently, Varun’s character is shown making all efforts to keep his love interest (played by Raahei) safe. Varun plays a hitman in the flick.

Stunts will be the main highlight of Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha.

Krishna plays the negative character in it. Yogi Babu, Mansoor Ali Khan, Vichithra, and Dhivyadharshini are also a part of the cast.

Mangai

Mangai is directed by debutant Gubenthiran Kamatchi. It is headlined by Anandhi and Dushyanth Jayaprakash.

Adhithya Kathir and Shivin Ganesan are the supporting actors. The film is produced by AR Jaffer Sadiq under the banner of JSM Pictures.

Director Gubenthiran recently said that men were the real audience of the film.

Mangai has been shot in Munnar and Pooparai in Kerala, and Theni, Cumbum, Kudalur, and Chennai in Tamil Nadu.

The movie will be released on 1 March.

The Boys

Tamil movie The Boys features Siva Sha Ra, Arshad, KPY Vinoth, Yuvaraj, Redin Kingsley, and Rajendran in key roles.

The first-look poster of the film showcased the lead actors as alcoholics.

According to director Santosh P Jayakumar, just as the first look suggests, the film revolves around their liking towards liquor and the various places it takes them.

The movie will talk about the ill effects of alcohol addiction, which is, however, conveyed through humour.

Nova Film Studios and Darkroom Pictures are bankrolling The Boys.

The cinematography is handled by K Ahamed Sherief and the editing by Sam RDX.

Arun Gautham composed the music.

The film is slated for release on 23 March 2024.
