Red Giant Movies, the distributor of Thunivu, is also distributing Varisu in the top five grossing areas of Tamil Nadu.

However, the distributor clarified that screens would be equally shared between the two movies in all areas. Advance bookings are yet to open at the time of writing.

The audio launch function of Varisu was held in Chennai and telecast on Sun TV as a New Year special. Since Ajith does not attend promotions, there would be no audio release for Thunivu.

Meanwhile, the  Tamil trailer of Thunivu created a record with 1.1 million views within 24 hrs of its release, this falls short of Vijay’s Beast, which clocked 2.2 million in the same time. However, some trade analysts claim that it beat the Beast record.

The film’s runtime (2 hours and 23 minutes) is a plus with Ajith who appears as a bank robber. Manju Warrier will be doing some action sequences in the flick.

The trailer of Varisu is set to release on 4 January as it is going for censors. Producers want to put the date on the trailer, and it can be done only after obtaining a censor certificate.
