varisu posters on chennai metro rail

On Monday, 12 December, 7 Screen Studio tweeted a video where a couple of men were found putting up posters of Thalapathy Vijay’s Varisu on the Chennai Metro Rail. The tweet went viral after elated fans of Vijay spread the news on social media.

In the tweet, Chennai Metro Rail can be seen decked up with Varisu posters and plying along the tracks in the bustling city.

Vijay met the district authorities at his Pannaiyur Farm House, located on the outskirts of Chennai, on Tuesday.

Last month, he met several district officials as part of gearing up the fan clubs for the groundwork to be done to promote his forthcoming film Varisu.

The audio release function of the movie will be held on 24 December at Nehru Stadium in Chennai.

Meanwhile, actor Ganesh Venkatram tweeted that his portions for Varisu were over and also announced that it was a wrap.

Cyclone affects Vadivelu’s Naai Sekar Returns collections

Vagai Puzhal Vadivelu’s comeback film Naai Sekar Returns garnered ₹1 crore on its opening day.

Rajanikanth’s Baba, which was re-released after 20 years on 10 December, did business of ₹1.4 crore on its own opening day. This included collections in Karnataka and other parts of India.

The torrential rains due to Cyclone Mandous, which wreaked havoc in Tamil Nadu, took a heavy toll on Vadivelu’s movie.

Besides, negative reviews seem to have put a break on those who would have braved the battered roads to watch Vadivelu on big screens. After five days of screening, the film earned a gross of ₹4.5 crore.

Avatar 2 to get fewer screens in Tamil Nadu

Theatre owners in Tamil Nadu are opposing the demand put forth by 20th Century Studios, Disney, and UTV, who are handling the distribution of the forthcoming Hollywood flick Avatar 2.

The distributors are asking for non-returnable advances from the theatres for screening the film. However, after Covid-19, theatre owners decided to not pay any advance to distributors.

Meanwhiles, multiplex chains have started accepting bookings for Avatar 2. Bookings have also started in the districts where Red Giant Movies owns theatres.

Though the move left many surprised, several theatre owners opined that Avatar 2 has no craze in their areas and hence they did not accept the terms of the distributors.

As a result, the much-awaited Hollywood movie might get fewer screens in Tamil Nadu, say trade sources.
