The Nivin Pauly-Sai Pallavi‘s combination is a favourite among youngsters. The 2015 movie was re-released in Tamil Nadu on Thursday, 1, February, two weeks ahead of Valentine’s Day.

The Malayalam film was a blockbuster hit upon its release.

Premam has been released in different movie halls in Chennai, Pondicherry, Tirunelveli, Tiruppur, Madurai, Dindigul, Tuticorin, Kavalkinaru, and Trichy.

The majority of theatres in these areas have reported houseful shows upon the re-release of the romantic drama.

Various social media posts show the eagerness shown by the youth, who are keen to watch the film even after nine years of its release.

They were all praises for Nivin Pauly, Sai Pallavi, and Anupama Parameswaran’s spellbinding performances.

The “Malare” song from the flick is one of the hit romantic tracks that has been played on repeat mode by music lovers for several years.

The other songs in the movie, including “Aluva Puzha“, are also popular among the audience.

Premam revolves around the central character George played by Nivin Pauly and his romantic encounter with Malar (Sai Pallavi), his professor at college.

The movie faced criticism for glorifying the romance between a teacher and a student. However, it became a sleeper hit and gave the much-needed break to Nivin Pauly.

The film had the flavours of nostalgic elements of the 1990s, which was its major highlight.

Alphonse Puthren’s detailing in each frame lent freshness to the project.

Premam also gave a break to the female leads — Sai Pallavi, Anupama Parameswaran, and Madonna Sebastian.

It grossed over ₹73 crore at the box office and became one of the best commercial films produced in Malayalam.

The film was released in Chennai, Trichy, and Tirunelveli in 2016.

Re-releases a trend

The trend of re-releases is fast catching up in the Tamil industry, too.

A few theatres in the state screen only old films of yesteryear actors MG Ramachandran and Sivaji Ganeshan.

Similarly, for the birthdays of actors like Rajinikanth, Kamal Hassan, and Vijay, their old ventures are re-released in several theatres.

Kamal Hassan’s Vettayadu Vilayadu  (2006) and Suriya’s Varanam Aayiram (2008) were re-released recently.

Also, romantic films like Alai Payuthey (2000) and Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya (2011) are often re-released in Tamil Nadu for Valentine’s Day.
