Malayalam director Blessy debuted in Malayalam with Kaazcha in 2004. Before that, he was an assistant director for a long time.
At an event organised by Manorama in Kochi, the filmmaker recalled an interesting incident related to his debut flick Kazhcha (2004).
When Blessy approached Mammootty for Kazhcha, Mammootty asked him who was writing the script.
“When I told him (Mammootty) my plans to approach a few scriptwriters like Lohitadas and Sreenivasan, he wondered why I couldn’t write the story. I shared my limitations with him, but he insisted I should write the script. He said I could approach the other writers if it isn’t up to the mark,” the director said.
Incidentally, all the screenwriters Blessy approached could not commit to the project and the filmmaker was compelled to write the script.
Kazhcha revolves around a film projection operator who adopts a homeless child displaced by the Gujarat earthquake.
The Malayalam film, starring Mammootty and Padmapriya, was a super hit and is considered one of the best films of Blessy.
At the event, Blessy also recollected his close association with the late director Padmarajan whom he considers a master director.
The filmmaker is now gearing up for the release of his most ambitious project — Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life). The project took him about 16 years to complete.
The survival drama is a real-life story based on the novel of the same name written by Benyamin.
Prithviraj Sukumaran plays the protagonist Najeeb in the flick.
Aadujeevitham will hit the screens worldwide on 28 March.
AR Rahman is the music director.
