It’s no surprise that Nivin Pauly’s latest release, Malayalee From India, has broken records at the box office. A much-needed success has finally come to the Premam actor, thanks to the film.

Directed by Dijo Jose Antony, Malayalee From India features Nivin as an unemployed person, who gets into trouble because of his hypernationalism.

The film is a clean political satire with a generous dose of humour and stars Dhyan Sreenivasan in a key role.

The first half is a hilarious ride with some good comedy scenes involving Nivin Pauly and Dhyan Sreenivasan. Indeed, audiences and critics are hailing the duo as the hit combo as they were reminded of Mohanlal-Sreenivasan and Jayaram-Mukesh’s combos from the 1990s.

As per trade analysts, Malayalee From India earned ₹2.5 crore on its opening day at the Kerala Box office, the highest for Nivin Pauly in recent times.

Over 100 extra shows were added on the first day after the film got a positive response.

In all, it registered a gross of over ₹2.5 crore on the opening day.

Nivin returned to the spotlight with a cameo role in Varshangalkku Shesham this April, after experiencing back-to-back flops, since 2019.

No hits after Love Action Drama!

Nivin Pauly’s last superhit film was Love Action Drama (2018), directed by Dhyan Sreenivasan. Unfortunately, he did not taste success after that.

Surprisingly, he has many hits to his credit, including Thattathin Marayathu (2011), Premam (2015), and Oru Vadakkan Selfie (2015).

He is popular among family audiences and youngsters because of these feel-good films. However, after Love Action Drama, none of his movies did well commercially at the box office.

Well, Nivin trying different roles by getting out of his comfort zone of feel-good films is attributed as the main reason for his failure.

His association with Geethu Mohandas in Moothon (2019) saw the actor play a don hailing from Lakshadweep and settling in Mumbai. In a brave attempt, the Malayalam actor played a gay person in the flick.

However, Moothon missed the mark as audiences were not ready to accept Nivin Pauly in a ‘different’ role.

Later, Nivin Pauly did Mahaveeryar (2022), a fantasy film with a strong social message. But it also ended up being a flop.

His next big-budget movie, Saturday Night (2022) directed by senior director Rosshan Andrews, was a comedy entertainer. But the film bombed at the box office and the makers faced cyber attacks on social media.

Meanwhile, Nivin’s Padavettu (2022) won crucial reviews, especially for his spectacular performance. But it did not mint money at the box office.

Then, his Ramachandra Boss & Co (2023), which was released along with Dulquer Salmaan’s King of Kotha and RDX for Onam 2023, was a dud too.

Nivin Pauly was body-shamed for being obese but he chose not to respond to the trolls.

Makes a grand comeback

In Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Varshangalkku Shesham, which is still running successfully in theatres, Nivin Pauly did a cameo as superstar Nithin Molly.

His character as a self-obsessed superstar changes the pace of the film in the second half and gives it a new twist.

In a scene, Nithin Molly tells the audience at a public event that he neither has any godfathers nor is he a “nepo kid”. He even says he was also body-shamed.

When asked in an interview if he was comfortable saying these dialogues, Nivin Pauly said he was indeed apprehensive. But director Vineeth Sreenivasan was sure that the dialogues would do magic in theatres and convinced Nivin to say them.

There is thunderous applause in theaters, as expected, for the dialogues.

Nivin Pauly shines in his latest outing — Malayalee From India. Though the second half is clamped with a couple of issues, the actor’s performance works wonders.

Director Dijo Jose Antony generously used humour to narrate the political satire and keep the audience engaged throughout.

Given the tremendous response from audiences, the movie is expected to become a box-office hit in the coming days.

An industry expert said Malayalee From India has the potential to be a hit as it is a holiday season.

Listin Stephen produced the film under his banner Magic Frames.

A sequel to Nivin Pauly’s superhit action film Action Hero Biju (2015) is in the works, and fans and film enthusiasts are expecting big things.

Let’s hope that the actor will continue his winning streak at the box office!
