Dhyan Sreenivasan is reborn as an actor with Varshangalkku Shesham

Malayalam actor Dhyan Sreenivasan hardly needs an introduction.

Surprisingly, the young actor is popular among the Malayalam audience not for his hit films but for his viral online interviews.

Dhyan is the son of veteran actor-scenarist Sreenivasan and the brother of actor-director Vineeth Sreenivasan.

However, unlike his father and elder brother, he has no path-breaking films to boast of in his career.

‘Was afraid to do Varshangalkku Shesham

In a recent interview, Dhyan Sreenivasan disclosed that he got afraid when his brother Vineeth signed him for Varshangalkku Shesham. However, the reason he cited for his fear raised many eyebrows.

The actor said he felt anxious as his brother Vineeth had only seen success in his career as a director, while he didn’t. He also feared that Varshangalkku Shesham would be a flop due to his presence. Hence, he decided to give his best to the movie.

Dhyan said he tried to push Varshangalkku Shesham since he knew that Fahadh Faasi’s Aavesham, released along with his movie, had a lead.

The promotional videos did help Vineeth Sreenivasan’s directorial pull crowds to the theatres.

According to the Sacnilk tracking website, the film grossed over ₹76.80 crore worldwide and around ₹36.51 crore in India thus far.

The movie entered the 50₹-crore club in seven days of its theatrical release.

Dhyan Sreenivasan & his fearless statements

Dhyan Sreenivasan is a pure critic of his father Sreenivasan. He took a stand against his father when the latter criticised Mohanlal.

When Sreenivasan blamed Mohanlal for an incident reported in the late 1980s, Dhyan opined that his father should not have made a public statement about an incident that happened several years ago.

In another instance, during a public event in Trivandrum, an elderly person told the actor that he did not know his father’s greatness and wondered why he always criticised him.

Dhyan Sreenivasan replied that he knew his father well and loved him the most.

He also spoke about some good moments he shared with his father and explained how his father judges a movie.

Dhyan Sreenivasan recalled his father, who scripted and played the lead in Katha Parambol (2009), telling him that the movie had many issues but would run in theatres.

“Mammootty’s guest appearance at the climax is its Trump card and will work wonders for Katha Parambol,” Sreenivasan reportedly told Dhyan. This turned out to be true and the flick became a superhit.

Similarly, his remarks on “Nepo (Nepotism) Kids” were a hit with the audience.

On several occasions, Dhyan Sreenivasan was also vocal about his unorganised life, alcoholism, and drug abuse.

His fearless statements, past events, and honesty enticed people to watch Dhyan’s interviews and made him popular among fans and moviegoers.

Has been in demand despite consecutive flops

Dhyan debuted with Thira in 2013, which dealt with human trafficking. It was directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan.

The movie featured Sobhana in the lead role and was critically appreciated.

Later, the actor delivered two box-office hits — Kunjiramayanam (2015) and Adi Kapyare Kootamani (2015). However, he couldn’t continue the success streak with his next ventures.

The actor disclosed that he became insecure after the COVID-19 outbreak and signed films only for survival.

Subsequently, the quality of his work took a toll.

Though he delivered 12-14 flops, he was still being approached with new scripts and the Malayalam actor gave a green signal to every project.

Dhyan Sreenivasan won the hearts of audiences with his impeccable comedy timing, which was evident in films like Kunjiramayanam and Adi Kapyare Kootamani. This is believed to have been the reason why he was flooded with offers, though he delivered consecutive duds.

He even played a character with negative shades in Prakashan Parakatte (2021) and made a mark for himself.

Reborn as an actor

Meanwhile, Dhyan Sreenivasan’s fear of working in Varshangalkku Shesham positively helped him. His performance as Venu in the film is termed one of the best in his entire career.

In the film, Dhyan Sreenivasan appears in three different looks — as a teenager, a middle-aged man, and an aged person. He left the audience spellbound with his subtle performance.

Further, the scenes between Venu (Dhyan Sreenivasan) and Murali (Pranav Mohanlal) turned out to be the major highlights of the flick. Their bonding, especially in intense scenes, made an impact on the viewers.

In a scene, where Murali and Venu have a tiff at the former’s house, Dhyan performs like a seasoned actor.

Similarly, in another scene, where Venu’s dreams of making a movie get shattered, his reactions and dialogue tug at your heartstrings.

The actor’s mannerisms, body language, and looks (bald head) as an aged man were spot-on. Costume designer Ronex did a wonderful job here.

Thus, Varshangalkku Shesham became a path-breaking film in Dhyan Sreenivasan’s career.

He also made an impact with his character in the latest outing, Malayalee From India. The actor shared the screen with Nivin Pauly in the film and the duo excelled in their respective roles.

Dhyan will next be seen in Secret, directed by SN Swamy.

He is also working on untitled films, directed by Muhashin and Omar Lulu.

The Malayalam actor is also gearing up to direct his second film, probably next year.

His debut directorial Love Action Drama (2019), starring Nivin Pauly and Nayanthara in the lead, was a super hit.

Let’s hope he continues the success streak this time. Here’s wishing the best to Dhyan Sreenivasan!
