Despite being shot in Hyderabad, Girish assures that 'Premalu' is a proper Malayalam movie with all the elements to be an entertainer.
Girish AD’s third directorial Premalu is all set for release in theatres on 9 February. The romantic comedy casts Naslen K Gafoor and Mamitha Baiju in the lead roles.
Releasing a week before Valentine’s Day, the Malayalam movie has all the elements to be a wholesome entertainer.
Girish earlier helmed Thanneer Mathan Dinangal (2019) and Super Sharanya (2022), both superhits.
Premalu has huge expectations as Naslen and Mamitha were introduced by Girish.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, 9 February, Gireesh said he had no plans to do films in the same pattern.
“It was a coincidence. But Premalu is different from my previous works. It is shot in Hyderabad with a high budget,” he explained.
The filmmaker says he likes to do films with his team of friends. “But that doesn’t mean I won’t try other genres. It’s just that this story (Premalu) worked for me and everything else too fell in place,” Girsh quipped.
When asked if Premalu was meant for Basil Joseph and Nazriya Nazim, Girish clarified that Dileesh Pothen, who co-produced the film, asked him if there was a story for the two actors. “Nevertheless, I told Dileesh that I do have a storyline (Premalu) but not for them.”
When asked why the movie was shot in Hyderabad, Girish said many Malayalam films were shot in Chennai and Bengaluru but not in Hyderabad.
“I like Hyderabad. I used to watch Telugu films during my college days. My love for Hyderabad took birth at that time and inspired me to write Premalu,” Girsh added.
The director assured that Premalu is a proper Malayalam movie and not a Telugu film.
Girish also revealed that he wants to do a Telugu film as the industry has space for low-budget movies. He added that his next (Malayalam venture) will be based on cyber crimes.
Dileesh Pothen, who was also present at the press meet, oozed confidence that the actors in Premalu would draw crowds to the theatres.
He said he said Bhavana Studios, which bankrolled the movie, believed in Girish.
“Premalu is a movie of the present generation. It has no regular drama but lots of entertainment. We believe that it would become a trendsetter,” he added.
About his next directorial venture, Dileesh Pothen said writer Syam Puskaran is penning a story for him and more details will follow soon.
About box-office success, he said films with more entertainment value will get good collections as a majority of today’s audience is interested in watching films only to get entertained.
Mamitha Baiju, who is playing Reenu in Premalu, said she was happy with her role. The actor also thanked the makers for believing that she would pull off the character.
About her combination with Naslen, Mamitha said, “We did not work together before. But people always wanted to see us together on screen, and I am happy that it materialised.”
The Malayalam actor said her role is quite different from her previous ones.
Naslen hoped that Premalu would be received well by the audience.
About his combination with Mathew Thomas (Leo), the actor said Mathew plays an interesting role in the film and is worth watching.
