Even as Mammootty’s Kaathal-The Core is gearing up for a grand release worldwide on 23 November, the film faces a setback.

According to reports, the movie has been denied a censor certificate in Qatar and Kuwait due to its sensitive content.

This is considered a major setback for Mammootty who enjoys a huge fanbase in the Middle East. A majority of the fans are Keralites working in the GCC countries.

This is the latest Malayalam film to have been denied a censor certificate. It raises a serious concern about the challenges movies face in the Middle East with regard to content.

Mohanlal’s action thriller Monster (2022), directed by Vysakh, also faced a similar issue in the Middle East over LGBTQ issues. The ban on the film was lifted in Bahrain after the censor board asked the makers to trim 13 minutes of content.

A revolutionary subject: Mammootty

The makers of Kaathal-The Core recently released a compelling trailer where Mammootty was seen as Mathew Devassy, a Left party candidate who contests local body elections. Jyothika appears as Omana, Mathew’s wife.

At a promotional event, the Malayalam superstar claimed that the movie had a revolutionary subject.

The film marks the comeback of South Indian actress Jyothika to Mollywood after a long time. She plays Mammootty’s wife in it.

Directed by Jeo Baby, Kaathal-The Core talks about a serious issue and its plot was leaked online recently.

The film is produced by Mammootty’s production house Mammootty Kampany.
