Malayalam movie Kaathal-The Core featuring Mammootty and Jyothika in pivotal roles is all set for release on 23 November.

It is directed by Jeo Baby who helmed the critically acclaimed The Great Indian Kitchen (2021).

Ahead of the release of the flick, the cast and crew addressed the media during a promotional event in Kochi on Monday, 20 November.

During the interaction, Mammootty observed that filmmakers of late were coming up with experimental flicks.

“The passion that the audience has for movies is encouraging filmmakers to do new experimental films. This is the reason why Malayalam movies are widely being appreciated in India,” he said.

About the plot

As the plot of Kaathal-The Core went viral on social media, Mammootty asked the media, on a lighter note though, not to grill him about the details.

“It has a revolutionary subject but it is not what you have heard. My role in the film can be played by anyone.”

The actor revealed that the issues faced by the protagonist’s family at a particular point are the highlight of the movie.

“The family audience will easily relate to this film. The characters too are quite relatable,” he pointed out.

About film reviews, Mammootty said, “It is essential for audiences to have their own opinion about films. And I don’t think banning reviews will save the industry.”

When asked about his opinion on the emergence of OTT platforms, the Malayalam superstar replied, “The new technologies are good. But movies are best enjoyed in theatres. However, people who can’t visit theatres can watch them on OTT platforms.”

About his co-actor Jyothika making a comeback in Malayalam after a long time, Mammootty said there was no retirement for an actor. “Jyothika is now doing good roles. We thought of many actors for the female lead but Jyothika liked the role and readily agreed to do it. You will see a different Jyothika in this film.”

Jyothika told the media that she has been a big fan of director Jeo Baby. “Kaathal-The Core belongs to him (Jeo Baby) and I loved both the script and role.”

The South Indian actress explained that the crew was supportive and she had a great time teaming up with Mammootty yet again. “I always select films where women are shown in a good light. That’s my priority,” she asserted.

Jyothika also stated that her actor-husband Suriya was quite excited to watch Kaathal-The Core.

Open to criticism: Jeo Baby

Jeo Baby said, “Though Kaathal-The Core is a family-oriented movie, I’m trying to change my image of being a ‘family director’.”

He also stated that he was open to constructive criticism as it helped him improve his skills.

The makers recently released a compelling trailer of the movie where Mammootty was seen as Mathew Devassy, a Left party candidate who contests local body elections. Jyothika appears as Omana, Mathew’s wife.

The trailer also gives an insight into the family drama.

Kaathal-The Core is produced by Mammootty’s production house Mammootty Kampany.
