In the film, Mammootty plays Mathew Devassy, a Left party candidate who contests the local body elections. Jyothika plays his wife Omana.
Malayalam superstar Mammootty surprised his fans and film buffs by releasing the trailer of his upcoming movie, Kaathal-The Core, at 12.30 am on Tuesday, 14 November.
The one-minute-48-second trailer gives a glimpse into the story of Kaathal.
In the compelling trailer, Mammootty is seen as Mathew Devassy, a candidate from the Left party who contests local body elections. It also gives an insight into the family drama that ensues after Mathew’s family gets entangled in a legal case.
South Indian actress Jyothika is returning to the Malayalam film industry after 12 long years. She was last seen in Seethakalyanam (2009), directed by Rajeev Kumar.
She is playing Omana, the wife of Mathew, in the flick.
Kaathal-The Core trailer also suggests a strained relationship between the husband and wife even as he gears up for the local body elections.

Directed by Jeo Baby, the movie will hit the theatres on 23 November.
Interestingly, the forthcoming Mammootty-starrer is among the last high-profile movies that will be released in November.
Karthik Subbaraj’s Jigarthanda Double X, Tiger 3, and Dileep’s Bandra are still running in cinema halls.
On 17 November, Kalyani Priyadarshan’s Sesham Mike-il Fathima and Basil Joseph’s Falimy will hit the marquee.
Kaathal-The Core is produced by Mammootty’s own production house — Mammootty Kampany.
The makers recently released a new poster where Mammootty and Jyothika were seen in the backdrop of a protest launched by the Left party workers.
In another poster, Mammootty and Jyotika embrace each other with a tense look.
Kaathal-The Core is written by Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skaria.
Mathews Pulickan is the music director. Salu K Thomas is the cinematographer. Francies Louis is the editor.
