Japan: SS Rajamouli, Karthikeya, and family escape unhurt in earthquake

Rajamouli, Karthikeya, and family members escape unhurt in Japan earthquake

Ace director SS Rajmouli, his producer-son Karthikeya, and their family members escaped unhurt in an earthquake that shook Japan on Thursday morning, 21 March.

Producer Karthikeya took to X to reveal the news. In his post, he said they were on the 28th floor when the ground slowly started shaking, and it took a while for them to realise that it was an earthquake.

He added that he was about to panic, but all the Japanese around did not budge.

Karthikeya’s post read: “Felt a freaking earthquake in Japan just now!!! Was on the 28th floor and slowly the ground started to move and took us a while to realise it was an earthquake. I was just about to panic but all the Japanese around did not budge as if it just started to rain!! (sic),” he tweeted. The young producer concluded his tweet on a lighter note, saying, “Experience an earthquake box ticked.”

Soon after the post went viral, fans and well-wishers from across the world prayed for their well-being.

Rajamouli and his family along with team RRR (2022), including producer Shobu Yarlagadda, are in Japan’s Tokyo for the special screenings of the film.

The Jr NTR and Ram Charan-starrer premiered in Japan in October 2022. It collected over 410 million yen (approximately ₹23 crore) at the Japanese box office and continues its theatrical run.

In a post on X, Rajamouli revealed that he was always curious about the process and making of Japanese anime and could enjoy creative discussions with Rui Kuroki-san and Kazuto Nakazawa-san.

“I was always curious about the process and making of fantastic Japanese anime. Thank you Rui Kuroki-san and Kazuto Nakazawa-san, for the wonderful time. Thoroughly enjoyed our creative discussions. Looking forward…,” his post read.

Meanwhile, the RRR team received a warm response from the audience and the public in Japan.

In another post, Karthikeya showcased the gifts received from the Japanese who also visited the airport to see them off.

He wrote: “Japan!!!!!!!! You never fail to overwhelm us with your adoration! 🥹❤️🥹 Your love is unparalleled and we are forever grateful!! 🫶🙏🫶 This affection is what brings us back again and again!! Arigatou gozaimasu!! 🤗🤗🤗 PS: A group had come to see us off at the airport with these cute little gifts.. ❤️”

On the work front, Karthikeya recently released the Telugu version of the Malayalam movie Premalu, which is doing wonders at the box office.

Premalu Telugu collected over ₹10 crore in just 10 days and earned over $225k in the US market.

The film is debuting on Disney+ Hotstar on 29 March in multiple languages.

This apart, Karthikeya announced two major films with Fahadh Faasil in association with Arka Media Works – Don’t Trouble The Trouble and Oxygen. Amazon Prime Video bagged the digital rights for the two ventures.
