Jagapathi Babu in Mr Bachchan

Senior Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu is joining the sets of actor Ravi Teja and director Harish Shankar’s forthcoming flick Mr Bachchan.

Sharing the news on X, Jagapathi Babu wrote: “#MrBachchan lo Mass Maharaaj ni Yessaidaaniki Siddham.”

In a poster that the actor shared in his post, Jagapathi Babu is seen playing with the chess pieces while sporting an intense look.

Touted to be a heist thriller, Mr Bachchan is a remake of the Bollywood film Raid (2018).

It is produced under the banner of People’s Media Factory.

Reacting to Jagapathi Babu’s tweet, the lead actor Ravi Teja responded by saying, “#MrBachchan ikkada. Evaru evarni yestharo chuskundham!”

According to the film team, Mr Bachchan completed 50 days of shooting and finished 80 percent of the talkie part.

Will this be Jagapathi Babu’s impactful character?

It may be recalled that Jagapathi Babu recently regretted not landing an “impactful character” after having played an antagonist in Balakrishna-starrer Legend (2014).

He elaborated on how he was flooded with opportunities. Each role offered him good monetary rewards. However, he found himself growing weary of portraying the run-of-the-mill characters over and over again.

He said he frequently lamented the scarcity of truly compelling roles available in the latter part of his career. He also expressed his dissatisfaction doing characters which lack diversity.

He highlighted his performances in the films Rangasthalam (2018) and Aravinda Sametha Veera Rghava (2018).

The senior actor did a cameo in Vijay Deverakonda’s The Family Star (2024). He appeared as a wealthy businessman and father of the female lead Indu (played by Mrunal Thakur). However, the role hardly has any significance in the movie.

But then, his character in Ravi Teja’s upcoming movie Mr. Bachchan is expected to be distinct.

His rugged look, similar to that of Jr NTR’s Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava, caught the fancy of film buffs.

Jagapathi Babu always desired a fresh appearance. He mentioned his willingness to accept less remuneration for such roles. Now, it remains to be seen if Harish Shankar will provide him with such an opportunity in the Telugu adaptation of the Bollywood film Raid.

Upcoming films

Apart from Mr Bachchan, Jagapathi Babu will be seen in multiple films in the coming days.

It is learnt that the veteran actor will play the father of Jr NTR in his Bollywood debut War 2.

Babu also has Pushpa 2: The RuleSalaar Part 2: Shauryanga Parvam, and Kalki 2898-AD.

With numerous projects in his kitty, the actor is likely to get busy in the coming days. Additionally, the actor has a crucial role in Ram Charan Tej-Buchi Babu’s RC16.

Meanwhile, after the Andhra Pradesh elections, director Harish Shankar will shift his focus to Pawan Kalyan-starrer Ustaad Bhagat Singh.
