Happy birthday Vijay Deverakonda

Vijay Deverakonda’s rise to stardom is a story by itself.

From someone who struggled to have his films released smoothly in the initial stage of his career to becoming a national phenomenon in no time, he’s come a long way.

Of course, the rise hasn’t been a bed of roses since he has been celebrated and criticised in equal measures, especially over his recent slate of films, which bombed at the box office.

On his birthday, we take a look at some lesser-known facets of Vijay Deverakonda.

Vijay Deverakonda’s passion for writing

Vijay Deverakonda grew up to be an actor but did you know he’s been writing stories since class four?

Having studied in a boarding school, he took to writing at a very young age and it’s been one of his fortes, which he’s yet to explore to its fullest potential.

In one of his past interviews, Vijay wished to try his hand at screenwriting; however, he hasn’t planned it out fully yet.

Before making inroads into cinema, Vijay Deverakonda began his acting stint when he joined the Hyderabad-based theater group — Sutradhar.

He worked on several plays, in association with the theater company Ingenium Dramatics, before getting his first movie break in 2011.

Life before Arjun Reddy (2017)

Vijay Deverakonda made his acting debut in 2011 via Telugu film Nuvvila, which introduced six newcomers; he was one among them.

A year later, he was seen in a cameo role in Sekhar Kammula’s Life is Beautiful (2012).

Despite the mostly positive response to both these films, Vijay didn’t receive wide recognition until the release of Pelli Choopulu (2016).

Turning entrepreneur

Vijay Deverakonda is the first Telugu actor to float a clothing brand called “Rowdy” in 2019.

At the launch of “Rowdy Wear”, he said, “The label is an extension of my personality; it brings the attitude to express who you are and questions conventional thoughts and processes with comfort, in street style.”

He added, “I believe this attitude is now entrenched in a majority of the youth in this nation and would like to aid them with the right fashion sense that further enhances their spirit.”

Philanthropy

Vijay Deverakonda is one of the few mainstream heroes actively involved in humanitarian work.

When he won his first Filmfare Award for his performance in Arjun Reddy, he auctioned his award for ₹25 lakh and donated the amount towards the Telangana CM relief fund.

He helped a kickboxer named Ganesh Ambari with ₹24,000 through the Deverakonda Foundation.

Ganesh later won the title of Vaco Indian Open International Kick-boxing Championship Title 2020.
