Following her successful stint in Telugu cinema with films like Krack (2021), Naandhi (2021), Veera Simha Reddy (2023) and the recent Kota Bommali PS (2023), Varalaxmi Sarathkumar is gearing up for the pan-Indian Sankranthi release Hanu-Man.

Scheduled for release on 12 January, the superhero movie features her as Teja Sajja’s sister.

In a recent interview, the actor revealed that her character in the film is subtle and the episodes of cute banter between the brother and sister will impress audiences.

Sharing more insights into her character, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar highlighted the action sequence where she and Teja Sajja are involved.

Hanu-Man is surely going to break stereotypes,” she said, confidently.

Varalaxmi says her role is not subjected to the small part, as the audience might perceive after watching the trailer.

When director Prasanth Varma narrated the story to the actor, Varalaxmi followed her instincts and okayed the film.

As the shoot progressed, Hanu-Man evolved into a multi-lingual release in 18 months.

Acknowledging the scale and the budget on which the film is mounted, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar complimented the focus of Prasanth Varma in crafting the story on the screen.

About her role, Varalaxmi said, “As I have been saying this, I always prefer how impactful the character is rather than being so calculative about the screen space. It doesn’t matter whether it is a supporting character or a female lead. I play the role of Anjamma, the elder sister of the protagonist in Hanu-Man.”

While crediting producer Niranjan Reddy’s vision for making a grand project like Hanu-Man possible, she cited the reason behind carving out a spectacle like Hanu-Man is possible because of the strong rapport between Teja Sajja and Prasanth Varma due to their previous collaboration.

The actor also expressed hope the audience would appreciate their collective effort when Hanu-Man will finally be released for Sankranthi.

“I am eager to see the response of fans after watching Hanu-Man in theatres. The character Anjamma is certainly going to be the out-of-the-box one,” she noted.

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar added, “Hanu-Man will be etched in the minds of Telugu audiences. I am so thankful to Megastar Chiranjeevi garu for showering praises upon us during the pre-release event. It gives me great satisfaction as an actor.”

Career choices

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar says she is tired of devising plans when it comes to her film career. She also admits that nothing has gone according to her plans so far.

“That’s the reason I stopped planning my career. Life doesn’t go forward as you expect, it has its flow. My father keeps advising me but the final decision is mine. He told me that he liked my character in Kota Bommali PS,” she said.

“I never cared much about the language, keep doing films that excite me. I got many offers in Bollywood but nothing was so exciting. Now, I am playing a crucial role in Dhanush’s next. A few other films are in the pipeline,” Varalaxmi signed off.
