CID questions Naidu

A 12-member team of CID officials arrived at the central prison at about 9 am on Saturday and began questioning Naidu in a conference hall in the prison. The CID authorities allowed advocate Dammalapati Srinivas who appeared for Naidu, to be present during the interrogation.

The CID, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) M Dhanunjayudu, comprised of two more DSPs, A Lakshmi Narayana and A Vijaya Bhaskar. They reportedly carried with them a long list of questions to be fired at Naidu during questioning.

They grilled him on his role in the perpetuation of the scam based on the evidence that they had already gleaned from their investigation.

Breaks allowed to consult lawyer

The questioning went on in two spells for a total period of about six hours. The CID team reportedly posed 50 questions to Naidu. These were centred around the trail of money in the scam and who else was involved in it apart from those against whom the CID already has prima facie evidence.

Doctors performed a statutory health check on Naidu before and after the interrogation.

The team, as directed by the court, allowed a five-minute break after every one hour of questioning, allowing him to consult his advocate.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Court, while allowing the CID to take Naidu into their custody for two days, has laid down that no third degree should be used and that the entire course of interrogation should be video-graphed by the CB-CID and submitted to the court at the end of the interrogation in a sealed cover.

Naidu would be in CID custody till 5 pm on Sunday, 24 September. He would be later surrendered virtually before ACB Court.

Petition in Supreme Court

Chandrababu Naidu’s legan team on Saturday, 23 September, filed an appeal petition in the Supreme Court against the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s order that dismissed his quash petition.

Naidu’s petition in the apex court might come up for hearing on Monday, 25 September.
