NIA conducts massive raids on PFI, SDPI offices across states

Raids are being conducted across states over alleged terror funding, organising training camps and radicalising people.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), on Thursday, 22 September, conducted massive nationwide raids on the Popular Front of India (PFI) and the Socialist Democratic Party of India (SDPI).

The raids are underway in at least 10 states at locations linked to functionaries of PFI and SDPI, including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. 

As per initial information, the raids are being conducted over alleged terror funding, organising training camps and radicalising people. Several PFI and SDPI functionaries have also been taken into custody from across states. Protests broke out against the NIA raids in Mangaluru, Madurai, Kozhikode etc., and over 40 places in Kerala have come under the NIA scanner.

Leaders like PFI chairman Oma Salam have been raided. In Tamil Nadu, the PFI headquarters and residence of the state Vice President are being searched. In Andhra Pradesh, the NIA sleuths are raiding the residence of state president Abdul Waris and others.
