NIA chargesheet against Telangana activist Inna Reddy violation of rights, alleges counsel

Synopsis: NIA filed a chargesheet against Activist Gade Inna Reddy for allegedly inciting a mob during the funeral of a Maoist leader and accused him of having ties with the banned CPI (Maoist). Counsel representing Innaiah accused the NIA of infringing upon his constitutional rights.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against Activist Gade Innaiah, aka Gade Inna Reddy, for allegedly inciting a mob during the funeral of CPI (Maoist) Central Committee member Katta Ramachandra Reddy, aka Vikalp, in Siddipet in October 2025.

The chargesheet filed before the NIA Special Court in Nampally, Hyderabad, on Thursday, 18 June, invoked sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA), against Innaiah.

Innaiah was arrested in December 2025 in Jangaon and was remanded in Chanchalguda Central Jail. He is currently out on interim bail for physiotherapy after undergoing surgery in April.

The Telangana High Court had granted Innaiah a two-month bail on 4 June to stay at his daughter’s home in Hyderabad under police vigilance, on the condition that the family did not interfere in the investigation process.

He had earlier been granted bail on two different occasions following the deaths of his parents.

Innaiah was a founding member of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS, now BRS), a former member of the People’s War Group, and an active participant in the Telangana Movement. He founded Maa Illu Prajdharana Ashramam, an orphanage in Jangaon.

The NIA chargesheet alleged that Innaiah addressed a crowd of around 200 people at Ramachandra Reddy’s funeral, urging them to actively propagate the CPI(Maoist) ideology and keep the revolutionary spirit alive.

Ramachandra Reddy was killed in a security encounter in Chhattisgarh. Activists then alleged that the encounter was unlawful. His family demanded an independent investigation into his death.

The NIA also accused Innaiah of maintaining close ties with senior CPI (Maoist) cadres and visiting them in Chhattisgarh.

Lawyer refutes allegations

Advocate K Rajitha, representing Innaiah, accused the NIA of trying to spread propaganda through the chargesheet, which she said, the court had not accepted.

She called the chargesheet a sham, alleging it was filed solely to prevent Innaiah from obtaining default bail after six months of his arrest.

“We had no idea until today that a chargesheet was filed. One of my counsels was at the NIA court until 4 pm yesterday. This was done at the very last minute to prevent Innaiah’s default bail. This is a violation of the rights of the accused under Article 21,” Rajitha told South First.

Rajitha also refuted allegations that Innaiah was a member of the banned CPI (Maoist).

“NIA is trying to build public perception through its allegations. But the truth is that Innaiah was a key person in Telangana’s statehood movement. He toured all over Telangana and published a series of books on the historical injustices committed against Telangana. He had been part of several public movements in the Telugu states and had also contested elections,” she said.
